Dusk/night riding: do you wear eye protection
Curious, if commuting in dusk, or night, conditions, do you wear safety glasses of some sort? If so, why? If not, why not-never get any specks thrown up in eyes?

I don't. So I can see without problems. Never had anything hit me under those conditions. During summer bug season I do.

I do too. Clear lenses that will darken a little in sunlight. The wind makes my eyes water and I don't like it. Plus there's the bug thing. Also good in rain and snow.

Yes, I use clear full-surround safety glasses. Sometimes I forget and just have my normal eyeglasses on. If I forget the safety glasses in the wintertime and it's been dry for a few days, every time a car passes me it throws up a cloud of dust and salt, and some of it almost always gets in my eyes. Not pleasant.

yeup...Safety glasses as long as I don't forget them. I've turned around and gone home to fetch them. I really dislike tearing up and having junk in my eyes.
That and I've had bees and such bounce off my glasses while cruising around. Not a pretty thought!

I always wear something over my eyes, unless it's raining.
Keep an eye on steepandcheap.com and soon you'll run across a cheap pair of sunglasses w/ interchangeable lenses.
I wear clear all winter, switch to orange when daylight savings starts, and wear the shaded lenses on weekend rides.

Me too. I always wear something. Right now I wear amber lenses that darken based on ambient light. They are super clear (whe clean) and light-weight so I dont even know I have them on 'til I take them off.
If anyone is interested, they are Cat-1 Prologue that I got from Performance for about $25. They came with amber and clear interchangeable lenses. The venting is pretty good until you stop at a light, then they fog but clear right up when you start moving again.

I commute in a city, so I always want to have something on (Smith sliders with amber, bright-yellow or clear lenses) for protection. Lotta dust and grit otherwise.

Yes, a pair of cheap performance cycling glasses with clear lenses. Almost time for a new pair.
In summer I have taken many a gnat to the eye. I would rather not repeat that.

I feel naked on a bike without something on my eyes.

Another vote for eye protection. between rocks, sleet, bugs and just plain dust, I find that eyewear helps. I'm lucky in that I travel west/east so the sunrise/sunset is at my back.

I wear the close-fitting clear safety gogg's from Home Depot. $5.00, good coverage and a place to hang my mirror.

Been wearing safety glasses day (tinted) and night (clear) since having a minor cycling-related corneal abrasion 15 or so years ago. Cleared up within a day or so but was VERY uncomfortable.

They're mighty handy for mtb-riding in places where the branches don't get trimmed back too often, as well.

I always wear eye protection.
Clear safety glasses at night, Oakleys during the day, and ski goggles during winter.
I took a rock off of a car tire once a long time ago. My Oakley eyeshades stopped the rock. If I hadn't had them on...

Sometimes. Usually sunglasses because I can never find goggles that fit over my prescription eyeglasses as well as my sunglasses do. I need the eye protection to keep the wind out of my eyes. Otherwise, I have trouble with "dry eyes".

Always, ever since I had dirt thrown off a construction truck at me.
Helps in snow, rain, wind, too - I wear Ryder glasses with changeable lenses (I use the red/amber colour which seems to provide the best tint for night riding - I find headlight glare can be a pain sometimes, esp. when people don't adjust their headlights properly).

Yes, I wear a pair of old racquetball glasses I had laying around. I wear contacts and find that they dry out really quickly without something to block the wind. I also worry about something flying into my eye while I am in traffic.

Yes. I wear contacts and given all the salt and grit getting kicked up by traffic, it's better safe than sorry.
