Repaint , hopefully that was a joke or a unacknowledged desire on your next build.
Very nice!

Plans for a repaint aren't a joke. The current paint is dinged-up, non-original powdercoat from after a repair in 1980. There are a few sections where the paint is scraped down bare metal. The frame needs new paint for both protection and appearance.

Which cranks?

Option 1: Sugino Super Mighty Competition - Matches age of frame (also found on early-'80s "Superbe" model), and matches the drillium lever vibe.

Option 2: SunTour Superbe Pro - Matches most of the components.

Option 3: Leave the Sakae SX cranks (late-'80s).

After trading a few messages with Velocals, and providing some pics of the original decals, they have replicated the "Pro" seat tube decal... https://velocals.com/nishiki-pro-sea...dge-w-outline/
I'm going to depart a bit from the original super-simple decal layout, but I'm very excited to get the "Pro" decal included in this build. Thanks, Velocals!

Option 4, get a Sugino Mighty Tour crank, 110 bcd and have better gearing options than 1 or 2.

I like the drillium cranks but the superbe ones look to be in better condition and are matchy matchy.

On this bike, I'm fine with the 144BCD and being limited to a 42T small ring. It pairs nicely with the 13-21 freewheel

Those pics weren't the actual sets, just representative of what I was looking for. I pulled the trigger on a set of drillium Super Mightys, along with an ISO BB. I have always had lustful feelings toward drillium rings, and gave in to my urges. I'm still keeping my eyes open for a set of Superbe arms with a 144BCD to use with the drillium rings to complete the matchy-matchy set. However, it was pretty typical for Nishiki to use Sugnio cranks on SunTour-equipped bikes. Sugino actually made the SunTour-branded cranks.

Delivered today for install this weekend. Very pleased with the condition, and they will get a little hand-rubbing, too. I might add some paint to the S-crown logo.

Project Complete!!

Final details done - crankset, decals, lug cutouts filled.

10mi road test - Very sweet ride! Comfortable and agile. Braking is better than expected. Shifting is smooth and efficient. I still need to work on my pedal-flip technique, though - LOL. This bike is going to be a lot of fun.

New pic after the most recent parts changes (cranks, bars, stem, tape)...

I have had this bike out on the road a couple of times. The changes to the cockpit (longer reach stem, wider and shallower bars) make it feel right for my body. It's wonderful!

Thank you. I'm extremely pleased with how this project came out, and has continued to to evolve. I'm at the point where I'm out of things to do to it. Time to just ride.
