Any reason to be concerned about this stem rust?

Was going to use this stem on my miyata as it’s slightly shorter than the one I have on there now and I need to lessen the reach. Anyways, this is how it looked before and after soaking it in evaporust for about 12 hours. It seems fine to me but I don’t know much about these things and stems seem to be one of the scarier components to have fail on you.

That's an aluminum stem, so you really just removed the rusty residue that came from the steel steerer tube. Just check for cracks anywhere, especially the handlebar clamp area, but those SR stems are pretty reliable.

And do a really good cleaning on the steering tube insides as well. I use the RJ the Bike Guy method with steel wool and WD 40 sprayed inside on a coat hanger, then a greased rag on a coat hanger to coat it. Any tube that is accessible, I do it.

What catches my eye are the hammer marks under the extension. Whap, Whap, Whap.

Thankfully the tube this is going into is clean, and the one it came out of isnt going to be used for anything.

I thought about that too, not sure what they're from or if they'll matter

The stem was stuck, the hammer at work without protection.
