Very true. It's better to practice your wrenching skills on bikes that aren't so valuable. That way you're not going to hate yourself to much when you strip a thread or drop a wrench on the paint.

Here is mine: it's a Master X Light 58cm from about 1999-2001.
With a more classic wheelset (Novatec + DT Comp/Rev 2x/3x + Open Pro)
With Bontrager Race wheelset
The story of the first wheelset is somewhat disturbing: It would slip in the shiny chromed dropouts unless the skewer was really really tight. Unfortunately that had destroyed the bearings of the rear hub
So I roughened the dropouts with a file and am using my spare wheelset. The Bontragers aren't bad, but 2100g vs. 1700g 
With a more classic wheelset (Novatec + DT Comp/Rev 2x/3x + Open Pro)
With Bontrager Race wheelset

I just re-rebuilt my Super, changing a lot of the parts for ones I milled and drilled.

Seeing all these gorgeous Colnagos got me googling around to find the specs and differences of the Colnago models. I found lots of company history , but nothing with the models explained and even less on specs...

^ Oh, heck yes - it's probably around 1983 or so, and a Super as noted on the stays. However, I have my doubts that is original paint and am 100% positive that at least the seat tube decal is not original - the Rainbow band should state: "Record Ora Mexico 1972" and the font, particularly of the "C" is incorrect.
However, it's damn close and if there's no rust issues, it'll build into a sweet looking - and no doubt riding - bike.

What cues are you looking at for the paint not being original? I see what you mean about the decal...
I am the buyer, so I'm curious?
I also noticed Colnago didn't use multi color schemes until mid '80s, so repainted makes sense. true?

Colnago was beginning to do fades by 1983/84. Indicators of your frame are the flat engraved seatstay caps, Colnago stampings on the chainstays, newer clover cutout in the BB shell and fully-sloping aero fork crown. These all started appearing on various frames right around 1983.
I think it's a nice score - and definitely a very different color scheme than we normally see - so you'll have to post some pics and details when you take delivery!
