Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Awesome, awesome historic thread!

I'm looking at lemond arrivee (possibly) on ebay for $400. I said possibly, because the seller is not quite sure exactly when he got it. he said about 15 years ago, so i'm guessing it's 2003 or 2004. it's full titanium, and he stripped off all of the decals. I will inquire serial number and maybe ask trek to confirm. he's not even sure about the size.

I've heard that lemond ti frames went through a series of drama, and some of the frames were very flexy. Do you find the early 2000 arrivee frames to be flexible? I'm a 200lbs dude who squats 500lbs, so id like to avoid flexy frames.

I love that this thread gets "necroed" every few years. So much fun to see how wrong I was, lol.

Old thread

The 2003 Lemond titanium Arrivée rides smooth, shifts well with Ultegra and hasn't broken or rusted. The forks are carbon so I guess that's a weak point. She weighs 21 pounds so not the lightest.
Interesting to see the old Lance A vs Lemond comments. They were way too harsh on Lance for an endemic situation.
It's a shame Trek dropped the Lemond line.

LeMond Cycles is making a comeback. LeMond

Personally, I don't think LA was punished harshly enough. Whataboutism is a poor excuse for such criminal behavior.

My ti

Back when ti was still in it's infancy I had a mount built around a TELADYNE. Great ride handled fine. BUT there was a major design flaw. The down tube was purposely made oversize to stiffen the ride. Instead of of designing a down tube shifter to fit they crimped the tube to accommodate a standard shifter. This is before STI or index shifting. RESULTS.... Down tubes were snapping like toothpicks. Road & raced mine for the seasons no probs. But if you found a ti bike at a good $$$$ go for it

You weren't wrong. You were absolutely right with your prediction that Trek would jettison the LeMond brand.
