Not a bad day... 23 miles @ 15.1mph. Temps 37-45.
Spring is only 3 days away.
Oh... there's some serious potholes. And if it's not the hole, its the chunks of pavement that used to fill them.

First day of Spring and I was in shorts.

I've been babying myself for a few days.....I fell right onto my a$$ when working in the yard. I won a tug of war with a stubborn vine much more abruptly than I anticipated I would win. You get the picture. it must have looked a lot funnier than it felt. My back has been hurting since, but today I decided to treat it with tough love and rolled out 31 miles. Feels great....so far. Going to work soon and we will see what 3am brings.
Speaking of injuries, Steve B, is there light at the end of the (carpal) tunnel?

We didn't see you at the start.......did the B group go at 830?
We went out at 9 with the AA/Open group and hung with them for around 10 miles, but it was fast for our first tandem ride of the season. Those boys have been riding all winter. 5 of us dropped off & went to Northport for 37 miles. Not bad for first group ride of the season.

I agree completely, except I keep reaching for my Soma 'cross bike!

Hand/thumb mostly better, it's an inflamation injury so I have to not re-inflame it, else surgery was a waste
Still, got a ride in last Tuesday and a flat as well

I was riding on Northern Boulevard yesterday:
I think 25A needs Bike Lanes, and the drivers are crazy. I have a well-lit bicycle. At 50mph , a car needs to be more than 5 feet from the bike. Just sayin'.

There's not much of Northern Blvd. in Nassau I would ever ride, up Fish Hatchery and east from Cove Rd to Cold Spring. I get on it for as short a period as I can and am off it as soon as possible.
As well, it's spring. It takes Long Islanders a good 2-3 mos. of getting used to have road cyclists out there again after not seeing us all winter before they finally get used to us. Till then it's major hostility, and every year it's the same BS.

So far, so good, as far as road raging drivers, but the year is young. I think being on a goofy tandem defuses some of the hostility at times. It does nothing to combat run of the mill incompetence, however.

Decided to ride to Tobay... big mistake. There was a very strong NW wind and the ride back from the beach was murderous. The ride down was so fast that I PR'd the segment from Cedar Creek to the pencil. On the way back i was fluctuating between 12-13mph.
30 miles @ 15.5mph and 1400c.

Great day to ride, finally! You probably did better with the wind than we did....starting from the South Shore we mostly battled a headwind from the north going to Northport. It then shifted to more from the west so we got to fight it going home too. 47 miles all told. Good times.
Pair of big bikes in Northport.

Just a quick 20 mile ride.
The road conditions are the worst i've seen. Major craters and a lot of debris on the shoulders.

Nice ride today. Only had time for 30. As OldnSlow pointed out, lots of sand/gravel/pavement rubble on the shoulders. Be careful out there. On the plus side it was my first ride in summer kit. Shorts, jersey, no layers, no wool, no hats, no nothin'.
On my way home on the Bethpage path, I came across a couple taking a rest on the bench next to the newly installed well building in the park. They had heavily laden touring bikes and I had to stop and ask.
They are a British/Dutch couple currently 10,000 miles into a 13,000 mile trip from Toronto, around the ENTIRE PERIMETER of the US. They are headed up the Atlantic coast from here to Maine. They have been on the road since July and haven't yet decided where or when the trip ends.
Interesting people. They have a website Cyclink | Cycling the world, one continent at a time. for any of us curious about their travels.

47 miles and damn, it was really windy. There were times the crosswind almost knocked me over.
Joe passed me at the Bethpage circle as I was talking to a couple that was walking.

Only time for 30 on this beautiful but busy & blustery day. Tomorrow (ahh, today actually, it's 336am, a lull in the action here) looks to shape up the same.

Took the road bike down and WOW, what a difference over the CX. 57 miles and still a strong wind that shifted over the ride.

Maybe I'm too much of an unsophisticated barbarian to notice the nuances, but I'm always surprised by how sprightly my steel CX (Soma DoubleCross) and, for that matter, my Rivendell Atlantis tourer, which is a tank, feel on the road. Then again I have not ridden my CF road bike since winters onset, so maybe I'll have your reaction when I get it out. It appears this will be the week. I'll be doing a 57 miler too.
