Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nitto nordeast for town bike

to replace north road bar

that puts me way too upright and that my 13 yr old (inheriting the bike) hates because he wants straight flat. Nordeast is attempt at compromise.

Well, technically you DID walk out with new chainrings and a rear dérailleur...at least that's what I would tell my wife...

Its just so I can walk into a deli to get something quick while on a ride.

Odd that you sat they stopped making it because its still on their website:
ABUS Special Lock Combiflex Pro 202 (52920)

And many vendors are still selling them.
Mr Obvious here again. I said wire cutters, a much smaller version that can be carried in a persons back pocket, wire cutters made for cutting regular gauges of copper wire. Heck a simple pocket knife with a decent blade could cut that cable.

You're quite the MacGuiver.

I really doubt a pocket knife can cut it. It will surely take you long enough for me to return from the bathroom or getting a water.

You seem to be determined to be the be right.... Good luck with that.

So far i have for 3 years without a lock. It can only get better with a lock.

Maybe there's a simple misunderstanding on the intent of this lock. Its for when i need to run into a bathroom or into a deli for some water for food and only left for 2-3 minutes. It's NOT for going into a deli and eating inside or for the bike to be left for more than a few minutes.

Yes, someone looking to steal a bike and has cable cutters can get it, but they will also get part stronger locks if they are intent on taking the bike. And if they can't... they'll kick in the spokes and badly damage the bike.

BTW... my homeowner's insurance covers theft of the bike when away from home.

Sure a U lock might be more secure, but it's also heavier and bulkier so odds are it will be left home unless i have a planned extended stop.

Just to recap, this is what I said:

Also bought the new garmin speed/cadence sensor, a sram xg-1090 cassette, a kmc x10sl pink lady chain, and a neat little basket for my beater. Gah, I spent too much money today.

Had a Kuat NV on back order and it sounded like it was going to be the end of May before I saw it so I decided to order a 1up rack to avoid the wait. Both ended up coming this past week so now I have to try them both on and make a call...

That is, by appearances, the same lock that Trek sold under their Trek brand for a while. It's my favorite lock and I have wanted another so THANKS ! I'm very aware that it's easy to break but as has been mentioned a pro can break almost anything, but almost anything will stop a kid from grabbing your bike and riding away and that's all I'm willing to carry on my road bike. Humorously, my heavy steel touring bike get the protection of a heavier cable lock but my uber expensive road bike just gets a little cable lock...but it's also almost never out of my sight.

Just got the Park cyclone chain cleaner gear brush and cleaning fluid. I'll have to say it gets way more gunk out then just scrubbing with a brush

Just n+1'ed a Tarmac SL4 Sport. NOS 2014 with 5700. This will be my backup/rain bike after I ditch the crappy brakes for some 105 or Ultegra. Might upgrade the front derailer as its Tiagra but otherwise a nice riding bike. Should be on the road shortly.
