Really Big Religious Announcement: I Have a New Bike Coming!

I ordered a Brompton folding bike.

It should be here in a week or so.

Pictures will be uploaded on arrival and maiden voyage.

I approve of this message but I'm not god...my dog thinks I am though. Bromptons are cool; congratulations.

speaking of bikes...

My latest bike is this Rivendell frame which is sitting in it's box in my bike room with another few boxes full of parts waiting to be built up when I get a little time. https://www.rivbike.com/collections/...2018-appaloosa

.
...my latest is a frame from a mysterious local frame guy, Kimo Tanaka out in Woodland or Davis, somewhere. He keeps a pretty low profile, and his older frames, like this one, don't appear on CL all that often. As usual, this is a rescue bike. When I took it apart there was very little that was not ****ed up. Someone put on a hi-ten fork, and left out the crown race to make it fit better.

The wheels, on mucho pricey White Industries hubs, were both dished wrong, and in general the derailleur hanger was so far off straight I'd be surprised if it shifted at all. and it had this weird thing going on with the BB spindle where someone had swapped in something that was about 7-8 mm too long.

But the guy I bought it from was convinced it was a wonderful touring bike, because someone had mounted a ten speed cluster on the back. I shoulda paid less, but I think I still came out OK with the hubs and the frame.

I just finished it yesterday, and took it for a maiden voyage. Needless to say it's criterium geometry.

They are almost a little too hip for me with their awesome web marketing and high price. But theres really no other combination of real ride-ability and super tight fold that I can find. I'm impressed with the bike and thats what matters to me.

I'm going to tour Brittany (or perhaps Britain) on it at the beginning of June.

...I was gonna ask if this was for air travel as my next question. There's a small, but dedicated contingent of folding Brompton and Bike Friday people here who use them in that same way. If I had it in me to make the flight to Europe any more, that's probably how I would do it.

@onbike 1939 is selling on his Moulton, but good luck folding one of those. Nice tiny wheeled bikes, though.

What kind of chainwheel toothage comes on it as stock ?

Brompton's are overpriced folders for SJW pot-smoking hipsters.

Extra-cool are those old Moulton folders from the 60s-70s.

I pray for its safe arrival.

If it arrives safely then that's proof that god answers my prayers... if not then that's also proof that god answers my prayers but the answer is 'no'. Either way I'm about to prove that god answers my prayers.

Interesting Dave. I'll be interested how you do with using it for touring as while it's a great city bike I'm a bit doubtful about its suitability for touring.

If you do manage the UK and get all the way up here, do look me up.

For sure I will if I get up your way.

It will be credit-card touring. Not the full camping load. So It should be good.

One Month of Loaded Touring on the Bromptons, or ?No, it?s not a Bike Friday? ? The Path Less Pedaled
