Short day ride to the mountains of Western Tokyo

After two months and counting working from home, we need exercise in prep for our summer tour. Hachioji castle ruins is one of the most haunted places in Japan--so they say. We have camped here twice but this is our first time to ride there.

Another great video, thanks! Japan is known for the wide popularity of cycling for transport but I didn't know there were so many bicycle trails.

There are some very famous ones like the Shimanami Kaido; but also most big rivers have flood banks and it is common and easy to make a path on the top. Usually they are mixed biking/jogging/walking paths as you see in this video.

I enjoyed your video, thanks. FWIW not all concrete is ugly, just most of it.

A nice ride. I didn't see any castle ruins in the video. Did I somehow overlook them or were they not in the video?

Cheers

You didn't hear the narration which said something like, "We forgo the ruins this time and instead have lunch here." If you check on the channel and also the narration mentions we have camped there twice and visited the ruins at least the first time we went there. There is also a brief explanation in that first vid about why it is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in Japan.

Oh, thanks! I thought the original wow was being sarcastic because there is not much to this little vid.

No sarcasm in that original “Wow.” Was genuinely blown away by the video. Thanks for posting it.
Eagerly awaiting the follow-up!

Yes the cowes were a big surprise. We have free range chickens 5 minutes from where we live bit I had no idea there were cows in Tokyo.

Not sure there will be a follow up! I rarely make these short videos and only do it now because of the virus and getting bored! But there are much better videos on my channel if you have time to kill. The winter tours are usually the best I think though they are a bit long for most people.

Biking is a good way to discover things like that. I live in a dense suburban area but which is near some horse farms--on a local ride I discovered a place that has zebras & antelopes...oddly it isn't publicized.

Thanks for sharing that video. It has an "NHK" quality to it (meant as a compliment).

In the segment where you are riding on a busy road and are passed by a truck, I see a man walking on a separate path. Are bicycles not allowed on there?

Japan is a country of conventions not laws. Even the police break cycling laws ALL the time. Bicycles can go anywhere people go and vice-versa simply because that's we we do. What the actual rule or law is we never even think about. Mainly in daily life if you can walk in a place you can also ride in a place; this is especially true in busy shopping streets where housewives ride their mama bikes with shopping baskets on busy paths dodging in and out of people with some grandmothers connately ringing their bells!
