Those are some nice pics @Hermes and thanks for the report; there isn't much social media about the cruise so its good to get a review. What was the ratio or single to tandems?

I probably should go to Russia, is it as cold as NorCal?

What a report! Thanks for that! That's a cool experience.

More 3x10 today. Some under/over on the last one. I'm debating moving on from the 3x10's to under/overs or attempt the 3x workouts for two more weeks at another 10w. The HR versus target was lower than the range set out by the plan. I'm doing this by power, but it raised an eyebrow.

I think I'll just go ahead and move into power intervals and the under/overs as planned.

I take it the plan is done by someone much smarter than me. I'm just making sure to do quality work. I did base this plan off of a test just for the plan, a recent test.

This is a Carmichael road race plan. It's always seemed to work well for my overall fitness and types of rides, races, events I do.

Norcal is either on fire or it's fire-adjacent temps of about 300f.

Several couples brought a tandem and single bikes. I think this was because of the deal we had with Air Tahiti for bikes - i.e. bikes were shipped for free. My estimate was that on any given day, it was 90% tandems and 10% singles on the road. The routes set up by the operator are easy and even if there is a climb or two, it is still easy by racing standards. However, in general tandem riders are obsessed by NOT riding hills and hate them. The hills were no big deal and we just scampered up them.

I suspect some riders chose single bikes if they thought there were hills on the ride. For example, we rode around Morea which is 32 miles without a stop sign or traffic light on smooth roads along the ocean with very little car traffic. My wife wants to go back to Morea and do a time trial camp. It was pretty amazing.

You will have a great time.

For once in my life I might actually think I need some rest. Carrying like 117 CTL for a while now just from bike stuff, then thinking about 2 hours lifting, a stressful job, and the twin 2 year olds becoming even more work now that one of them is broken has me pretty tired!

Raced track last night, hesitated to close a gap late in the 10-mi scratch race and ended up in a secondary group of four. Another rider and I were clearly stronger than the other two hangers-on and should have been up there, damn.

I've been without a PM for about 5 weeks (due to an accident) and have been generally lazy during that time... so I have *no* idea what my fitness is. But hey, it's my off season. Time to cut weekend rides short to go to the beach, and not get up too early if I don't want to.

Here's what the next few months look like:

September: 8-10 hrs/week no structure - just enough to prevent the CTL from falling off a cliff. Maybe one 14+ hr week at the end
October: 10-12 hrs/week - see above
November: Look out mother ****ers I'm coming back

In Aug/Sept/Oct I have 4-5 day vacation plans off the bike as well, and in November I took a whole week off work so I can put a monster week in at Tucson, Az for a little training camp to kick-start my base training

@tmonk. Those pesky gaps. I think you are smart taking it easy and then restart.

My weeks have been rinse and repeat. Last weeke was the same as the one before. Tuesday was back on Fiesta for LC efforts. My goal is to maximize my 3 minute power in my optimized aero position. I have 3 races before Masters Track Worlds the first week in October. Track Worlds is just late in the season.

When I attended masters track worlds in 2011 in Anadia Portugal, the US was located next to the Brits. I had a chance to talk with the Brits about how they managed a long season. They took a mid season break or started later.

Did a commute workout thing yesterday. Hot as hell on the way home. Totaled a metric. I had what I had with me for the ride home, still lost about 3 lbs over the day. Think I drank enough once I got home.

Looking at the Wahoo's power duration curve on that route, I like what I see. Makes me really want to toss the TT bars back on and go make a shot at my 10mi and 25mi times. I'm sure there is about 30sec to a minute on the 10mi time, and minutes on the 25mi time to be had if it is cool enough outside.

Aside from power next year, I really want to do a sub 20min 10 mile TT at some point. That's going to freaking suck. I may try to get my BIL to pace it on his moto up ahead of me for motivation for the actual try.

Systems check on the TT bike this afternoon. Full race conditions except no shoe covers. Should be able to wear the long sleeve skinsuit and I think I found the power number to hold. Just have to hop my crank doesn't randomly come loose again .

Thursday, track workout at VSC in Carson. Warmup and then 4x(2 flying as hard as I could go laps (pole lane) then swing up for 4 fast enough laps not to slip down the track). Change to race gears 94.6 gear inches and 3x(9 laps with motor and partner). The motor sets the pace for 3 laps and pulls off. My partner, who was on the motor then increases the pace for three laps. We exchange positions and I increase the pace again and finish with 3 laps with my partner on my wheel - 750 meters all out effort.

The good news, I'm back training on the regular. The bad news.... it's always a long way back to fitness. But the status is "on"

Flatted at the beginning of the group ride, and since I didn't want to waste 30 people's time, I tried to fix it on my own but the cartridge leaked and I was stranded =\. So I got a ride home and zwifted, not the day I had planned but at least got something in.

My patellar tendonitis is creeping back, which I can still train through but I probably need to take a month or two off of intensity. I'm going to ride hard tomorrow and if that goes well I'll race next week. If not, my season is done.

Did some TT work during the week, then 3 days of mountain biking with friends in Big Bear.

Had a little rain on Friday but still managed to get in 45ish miles, 5000ishft, 7 hours over three days. Very sweet riding.

Very cool @Heathpack! Did you ride on both sides of the lake?

I'm considering signing up for the Grizzly 100 in September... look like a monster ride!

Nope.

I was thinking of doing the mtb fondo associated with that event. I think it’s 30-35 miles. But we could come up with a more appealing route, with maybe 1 sag stop by my husband. We’re semi-planning on doing that the day after the race instead.
