I might somewhere, in a dusty box.. I also had a blue Azuki.......and it would have been 70,71 it was my first nice bike. ( I lusted over a fuji with sew-ups but at $400 is was beyond my budget.....think I payed $160 for the Azuki) It went all over the world with me when I was in the coast guard

I remember those. When I worked at Bikecology, a Peugeot/Nishiki dealership, in the early 1970s, we sometimes had to scramble for inventory, between the bike boom and various dock strikes. We sold a few Azukis to fill in voids in our Nishiki inventory -- they looked very similar in equipment and frame geometry, perhaps with better paint. Also, I recall higher-end Azukis adopting integral derailleur hangers before Nishiki clawed its way out of bolt on hangers.

I believe that there may have been no Azuki-branded bikes before 1973, and that a 1973 model might be branded with both the Azuki headbadge and the former American Flyer name on the seat tube of the same bike.
It was the same with Nishiki, which in 1973 still bore the former American Eagle branding on the seat tube.
Both Nishiki and Azuki (formerly American Eagle and American Flyer, respectively) were owned by the same outfit in California, and both brands were apparently changed in 1973 to reflect either 1) the newfound respect for Japanese quality and/or 2) the pretentiousness of the former "American-" names.
Also, some of the Azuki models were identical to Nishiki models (such as the International) at one time or another.
