Modding a bag to fit a Brompton carrier?
I found that I really like my new used Brompton.
I also have a Tom Bihn Maker's bag that I don't use much.
it was the first bag that survived more than a year with me.
Do you have ideas how I can adapt it to my Brompton?
I know that I need to start with a frame, but which frame?
C frame? S frame? Rolltop frame?
Also, I saw a thread here from someone that made her(?) Own bags.
I would love more pictures and ideas.

An image search via Google tried yet,. ?
a feature of my sewn Brompton Touring bag is a Sleeve to slide over the frame, and Velcro strap pair that goes under it, so,
when you lift the handle on the frame, or bag, the bag comes off with the frame..

I've made a number of bags for my bicycles, mostly my vintage steel road bikes, so not a Brompton. Pictures of your current bag and where it is mounted would be helpful in offering suggestions.
This is the latest set I made for a '70s Gitane and to match the remade @rhm custom saddle. I repurpose purses. It's part of my winter "stay sane" therapy.

OK but its not a bag to go on a Brompton bag frame ..Is it ? make one of those yet? Go..
I have a Messenger bag with a waist band, as well as the shoulder strap, I could weave the waist band in among the bag frame tubing ,
and snap the buckle closed , and so QR remove the bag & frame as one ..

Last week I finished a bag for my Dahon, so I have I have some Folding Bike bag making experience. It straps under my main frame and carries the wiring and electronics for my lighting and to charge my cell phone, which it will also hold. Pardon the long straps. This was a fitting before I cut them to their final length.
I picture my recent bag construction as examples that they can be made from scratch. If the OP, @mlau, could post a few pictures, I'd be glad to offer suggestions and tips for a DIY bag project.
Thanks @2 I and @Schwinnsta for the compliments. I enjoy being creative with my hands while watching TV at night during our long NH winters. My daughter gave me a Yeti Loadout Bucket for Christmas. I'm currently making a tool skirt for it!
I also enjoy helping others by sharing from my own experiences.

Hey Bob,
Great work. Very nice color matching of the leather bits.
As for the frames...I'm not sure what sizes things are.
They don't exactly list dimensions on any website that I've found.

To me it looks relatively easy to sew/construct a leather bag around the frame. As far as attaching your existing bag, I would think that Velcro tabs might work. However, seeing how expensive the Tom Bihn Maker's bags cost, I'd be hesitant to modify one.

I have a T-bag and it has a tight sleeve in the back into which the back of the frame slips in. The sleeve closes up with two wide straps that attach with velcro to the bottom of the bag. The velcro covers at least half of the area of the bottom so it has a strong holding power. Most people presumably never even notice that the velcro is there and that the frame and bag can be separated.

Carradice UK is another company , making a number of bags for the Brompton bag frames https://www.carradice.co.uk/bags/commuting-folding
they link to another company using printed truck tarp fabrics https://upsobags.co.uk/bags
a number of threads on the adapting the Dahon front head tube mount and the Brompton one, which is quite different, so as to use Btomptons bags
is in the past, archived here , and on the Web in general..

Ah.
I will try to stop by a dealer some time next month.
Next week, I am super preoccupied with training.
I will try jury rigging some straps on my Maker's bag.
While there's no slot for travel, I found a pair of key straps and a free lanyard might work.

- getting a dedicated Brompton bag (plenthora of makers and possilities)
- modifying your existing bag with a frame fixed to it
- strapping your existing bag to a frame or a front carrier
Most (but not all) people end up with option one sooner or later as it turns out that the dedicated bags have their advantages in daily life for them. If you want a fixed attachment to your existing bag you are not limited to Brompton frames - there are also adaptors to the carrier block available out there that give you a bit more freedom in how to modify your bag (or you can make one yourself - it is not too difficult).
