I lwas at Costco yesterday for the first time in a long time, and noticed they had softshell pants for $16. They seemed pretty well made too. I managed to avoid not buying them, but they looked like they would be great for commuting. https://www.costco.com/BC-Clothing-M...100414298.html

Interesting...it's always hard to tell beforehand how well they breath though which is the critical thing with bike pants.

I can bike in shorts down to around 50f. I've often wondered if a windproof-front plus very breathable back pair of pants would work best for 50f-15f, in the same pair of pants. (Below freezing probably wear wool underneath them).

they are interesting I just have to find someone with a membership. If not for riding i think they would be nice for camping in cool weather.

They look alright to me, especially the stretchy part. I have some Wrangler cargo pants I got at Target on clearance and I sometimes wear them on an 8 mi commute round trip.

That didn't come out right did it? I did not buy them. At least not yet...

I have 3 pair. I wear them at work if it's cold. Never ridden my bike in them though.

Hmmm... might be interesting. But, I still like jeans (or Lycra).

I have read that there are supposed to be waterproof jeans, although I'll toss on my rain pants for inclement weather, then take off the rain pants when I get home, and be generally clean (although sometimes moist) underneath.

I've seen softshell crabs before, and I'm pretty sure their pants have more legs than that

I bought a pair this weekend. I thought they looked nice in the store. I tried them on at home and they seemed to fit pretty well too. I am not sure how well they would do for cycling... you would have to cinch the cuff on the drive train side... they did seem nice in the legs and seat in regards to comfort and stretch. I am planning on wearing them camping this weekend. I hope they are warm and tough. Costco also had a pair of jeans with fleece but they were sold out at the store I visited.

I love my fleece lined jeans, but don't ride in them.

Looks comfy. I have similar pants from Costco from a few years ago, liked them so much I bought 2 in black and 2 in gray. What I wouldn't suggest, however, is biking in them. The material, while stretchy with some weather proofing, may not be designed to withstand the wear associated with cycling, in particular in the area that meets the saddle.

LOL I didn't know they sold BC Clothing in USA Costcos. I use these all the time. Very windproof and flexible in the knee. I originally used them for treeplanting but they also work so well as bike pants and carpenters pants that I bought 4 pairs. I love them.

I'll have to look out for those then. Sometimes I don't feel like wearing shorts (I quit wearing the tight fancy pants years ago) because I might visit a nice sit down place for lunch while running errands.

they were pretty warm... however I wore them camping where the highs were barely in the 20's I am glad glad I had my snow pants with me to wear over the softshell pants. I would love to get a second pair.
