Basso Year via serial number?

Good day all,

Can someone help me figure out what the year this Basso is. Owner is sure it is the Gap model, serial number off of bottom bracket shell is 802193. 54 is also stamped on shell which goes with the fram size. He seems to remember the frame being a late 80's early 90's model.

He also quoted me a price of $500 which seems high. Chrome forks, and chrome chain stays (both stay are chrome) are in very good shape. Paint overall is good with a few chips. Basso logos and signatures are all over the fram.

Thanks,

Mike

When attempting to determine Vintage Bicycle Value, it is a good idea to check the Component Numbers on the bicycle, if they appear to be original. Those numbers will help to date the bike fairly accurately.

Also, $500.00, for a Basso Gap in nice shape, is not high, in my opinion. That last comment would, of course, depend on a number of things that are not included in your information offered.

Please allow me to revive this thread, for there has not beenh an answer so far:

Does someone know wether it is possible to determine the year of manufacture from the serial number of a BASSO bike? For instance, if the serial number is 95XXXX, does it mean it is manufactured 1995?

To my knowledge, If it's a 6 digit serial number, the first digit will indicate which year in 1980s it was built. If it is a 7 digit number, then the first two are the production year.

This was confirmed by Basso as a 1988.
