Peugeot St Barnard

Dear Friends,

I've came across with this bike, one of our fellows is selling it and I curious about the worth ?

Do you think it is a bike to restore and save for years ?

Looking forward to your valuable comments.

To me it looks like a great bike to clean up and enjoy by riding it.

Oooh, nice bike. It is made with Peugeot’s proprietary HLE tubing so might not be considered high end, but Peugeot knew well how to make good bike frames no matter the steel. And the parts on the bike are perfectly serviceable, with a nice triple crank to boot (and thus the St Bernard model name.) I might spend a couple hundred on that, although you could try to get it for 125-150.

Given the graphics, HLE tubing and indexed Simplex derailleurs, I'd say this is a low end European model, circa 1989-1990. At least it has 700C rims and the triple crankset is a nice touch. Should be reasonably light, around 25 lbs. Still, I don't know the index system used by Simplex. For indexed shift systems, I tend to walk away, unless I klnow they are Shimano compatible, as there can be too many problems with replacement parts. Of course, you should be able to operate it in friction, in which case I'd consider it a sub-$100 bicycle in a USA market.

Yes looks like a euro and/or Canadien model Peugeot. Should be a great rider like most. if not all lower model Peugeots made with their "house" tubing, always had been.
Has interesting components, like the not so common CLB Omega brakeset, a later, longer reach version of their famous Compact Professionel model brakeset. I don't think those brakes were ever sold in the US.
Values for Peugeots like these are not that high, specially in a depressed classic bike market. Maybe $175.00 / 150.00 Euros, max. in very good rideable condition......
If you can buy it for the mentioned price or lower (depending on what needs to be fixed or restored) it will be a good buy as it is an ideal "everyday" sporty bike that will surely not disappoint.

It's definitely not Canadian market. By this time, the entry level Canadian models were being built by Procycle using Japanese components.

At first glance, I thought this was another dog thread, glad it wasn't.
