Bianchi ID & Value

Hopefully someone will have an idea what this Bianchi that came into our co-op is. I wasn't able to find a serial number, and the mixed components are certainly not original. Any rough value for price would be appreciated as well. Thank you!

I'm so jealous.

I'd say a lot depends on the market where you are. In Dublin, I'd happily pay >500euro, but probably up to 750eur, for that.

The subject bicycles appears to be a 1983 Bianchi Rekord 980, which was the bottom of the Italian manufactured models. The frame should be Columbus SL main tubes with Falck stays and fork. Serial number is on the seat lug.

I agree with T-Mar looks like an '83 Reckord 980. It appears the brakes, calipers and levers, were replaced. Too bad the original Modolo brake block holders are missing. The catalog specifies Weinmann 500 Deluxe. While the Modolos could be a factory change it would be odd to have paired them with DiaCompe levers from the factory. The seat and tires of course are not original.

That is a nice clean bike, looks like it saw little use.

PS are the wheels 27" or did someone drill out the rims?

I did have to replace a number of the components and make do with what we had lying about the shop. Much of it is not original, then. Certainly did not get all the parts on there that I wanted (including the brakes and rear derailleur). They are 700c wheels, but a previous owner drilled out the rims (unfortunately). The bike was turned in with a container of touch up paint, so that helped cover up some of the minor wear. Thanks for the id, all. Given the mashup of components, any idea on a fair value?

What did you have to replace? Do you still have those Modolo block holders? I'd get some Kool Stop blocks to go in them and put them back on.

As to value..... depending where you are I'd say this worth $300-400 maybe $500 for the "Celeste Premium". It isn't the fanciest of Bianchis but it is a good solid rider and will bring someone years of enjoyment

I’m with Bianchi Girl, would sell for $400 I would think. Frame is pretty nice condition, bottle cage (Elite Ciussi) is nice as is the Bianchi pantograph crank.

We were thinking around $400. Honestly, though, with the parts as switched out as they were, I'm not comfortable using them to ID the bike. Looking at catalogs and the decals specifically (which I do trust), as well as the stamp symbols on the fork crown and seat clusters, I'm more inclined to believe this is a 1984 Nuova Racing, not a Rekord 980.

Just which components did you replace? or were missing? Since lots of mid '80s Bianchis shared pretty much the same frame, including the '83 980 and the '84 Nuovo Racing, knowing what was on the bike when found and what was added later would help. We can only make a ID based on what we see.

I'll do my best to recall. Difficulty is as well that I do not know what the previous owner(s) switched out before I got my mitts on it. I'm almost sure the cranks are original, as is the headset and likely the Modolo brakes (minus the pads - sorry!). The brake levers are most certainly not original, and I was frustrated by the compromise I had to make with what we had on hand. I think it came in with Shimano 600 tricolor, which I *ahem* stole for one of my own bikes. (In some defense, we are a small non-profit shop that survives off donations. We occasionally come across jewels, but not often.) And while it has a 980 Campi rear derailleur now, I'm not sure that was the one that was on it. If I recall, I noticed a catch on two rubbing surfaces and went with the 980 instead. Best I could fine that aesthetically fit the bike (I felt). I'm pretty sure the pedals were original. The downtube shift levers were on it when donated. Sorry, but I'm blanking on whether I switched the seat post. If I did, it was from a non-Campi to a Campi that fit. Current handlebars and stem were on it when donated.

It's a mess, I know. In the end, I will certainly yield to your expertise. I was, admittedly, going primarily from catalog reference as I could find it.

The rims are none original and the maxed out longer reach calibers are a pretty big tell. This bike likely had 27X1 rims originally which were really only popular for from 80-84 which confirms dating. As model I would ques Rekord Tourer which was a low end touring sports model For value considering how nice it is I would put it a little lower at the $325-375 as presented

Well, perhaps we had better got back to square one and get the serial number from the seat lug. I thought it looked like a 3.A but maybe it's not. Regardless, based on the Bianchi serial numbers I've been able to collect, the seat lug location would appear to restrict it to a ltalian manufactured model of the Piaggio era. Take the dropout eyelets into consideration and it's no better than a tre-tubi SL model. It could be lower grade tubing like Aelle or Zeta but we should be able to determine the tubeset from the seat post size.

Well it is old, it is Celeste and it has Campagnolo on it so it must be a Specialissma!

At this point I don't really think it matters what model it is. It is very likely one of many low to mid level Columbus, Columbus Falck mix frames offered by Bianchi between '80 and '84ish. The current setup makes it look like a '83 980 model but it could just as well be an '84 Alloro or a Nuovo Racing of some sort.

Basically as it sits it is worth around $400-450 in a hot market with a Celeste premium you might get $500
