There are other classified ad services. Find out what is being used "locally".

Craigslist, Kijiji, Letgo, Facebook, Offerup, NickleAds, E-Bay (local if large awkward cheap stuff), etc.

THRIFT STORES.

Many of the people here on the board do our own maintenance, so for a Hybrid, perhaps $50 to $100 USD, plus a bit of elbow grease. Digging the bottom of the barrel, expect to spend at least $100 in tires & parts, but you could well end up with a bike as good as those $500+ bikes, with things like better tires than the stock tires. Not necessarily shiny, but a good solid bike for a commuter.

You can, of course, upgrade tires, seat, etc on your $500 Trek, but soon you'll be in $700.

This Jamis Coda came to me for $50 (thrift store purchase).

I don't ride "flats", and it has a fair number of upgrades, but it suits me better than a stock $500 bike.

Nice work on that one. I'm trying to resist the temptation of posting a "this is what I got for X amount" picture...

Adelaide has zero bikes for sale, and Melbourne has two, one of which is the REID brand the OP is talking about, practically new, for $270 (which, according to our resident genius Acidphast, is like the equivalent of a spoonful of dirt and a half-opened packet of McDonalds ketchup here in America).
Thanks mate over here we use a site called gumtree for most of our second hand goods and I live in the Bunbury area of western Australia there's not a whole lot there in terms of used bikes I went to a bike shop today and tried out a specialised sirrus bike that is pretty much the same as the other bikes with weight and it uses the same atlus gears it's about $600 so I would be willing to spend up to that much on a bike I did quite like the bike however I felt like the gears were quite clunky I was also on another site and some people over there recommend I get a path finder 1.0 or 2.0

Oh boy, here we go...

This is a really nice bike for the money, with excellent components. Still leaves you with a little money to change the bars (if you really want flat bars). Might be a little small though:
https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bunb...ike/1207593101

Another good frame to work with. Seller seems pretty open to negotiation, so you could probably get it for a bit less:

Good frame to build on at that price:

If you really want a mountain bike:

I just like the look of this one, and it's 50 bucks!
