Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was thinking the same thing when I saw him on TV. He got big in a bad way since the last time I saw him. Good thing for him that his weight is not a hindrance in his sport.

Maybe it's just me, but I have never had a problem with my nipples rubbing, either cycling or running (currently cycle about 100-200 miles/wk and used to run 35-40 miles/wk). However, I am sure the next ride I go on, my nipples will fall off (since I tempted fate and all).

I was like that for a while. Then all of the sudden I couldn't go to the grocery store without putting some glide on my man parts. It was crazy. In the middle of an easy 6 mile run training for Chicago a few years ago I just chaffed up bigtime and had to walk bull-legged back home. It was horrible. Ever since, it's been Glide city for me.

A little bit of vaseline on the nipples will make a huge difference. After awhile you'll stop having problems.

... seems a little extreme huh?
I didn't click on the link but I know tney can start bleeding. It happened to one of my roommates while running. I'm not sure how far he went but my guess is quite a ways because he ended up bleeding (only one actually) through his shirt which happened to be white as well. I'm sure the last few miles were pretty fun for him

Curad bandages are tons more sticky than Band Aid. Anyone sweating off the band aids- try a brand change

I saw a guy who looked exactly like that at a 1/2 marathon in Austin ... white shirt and all! Made my chaffing issues seem really minor

Seriously, get some body glide ... it works great, it's not greasy, though a little pricey it will last forever esp just on your nips and you don't have to be tearing advisives off your nips ... unless thats a + for you

I've never suffered from nipple chaffing in my life. Sure we're all different but there has to be something more to it than it just happens sometimes.

I'm suspecting that its caused by your skin reacting badly to polyester. Polyester used to drive my skin nuts but its not as bad these day's. I do wear polyester cycling gear these day's without any problems but 99% of the time I'm wearing 100% cotton street clothes so I'm not building up an intolerence to, and reacting to polyester.

For me its a sign of improving general health as well. Wool used to irritate my skin as well but now I like wool again.

Regards, Anthony

For those of you who just can't comprehend that nipple chafing is pretty routine...there are some people who actually have a chest; whose freakin' collarbones aren't the most defined part of their torso. I don't have MOOBS, I have pects, and at the end of those pects are nipples, and when I ride or run, these nipples are the first thing the front of my shirt rubs against. Not my huge beer gut, not my collarbones, and not my sternum like the rest of you skinny-assed beanpoles. Do a pushup or two once in a while, and all of a sudden, you might sprout some semblance of a chest muscle. Blammo, your nipple will rub on your shirt.

And no, I'm not going to post a pic, you hooligans. You'll just have to take my word for it.

Why would I want to do push-ups? I fail to see how that will help my cycling... if anything, it'll just hamper it by giving me muscles that only increase my weight, but don't help to actually move me. Besides, you yourself said that your huge rippling pectoralis major is part of what causes the chaffing? I'm not seeing a lot of up-side here...

psst: chest muscles help move your arms...you hold handlebars with your hands which are connected to your arms which are connected to your chest...developing chest muscles helps cycling. The ladies like it too.

Also, when you say something like 'you yourself said...' get the quote right. I have a huge, rippling something...but I didn't say chest.

Also...again...why such a hostile response? I'm not really complaining about my nipple chafe. I cover them and hit the road. It's the cross that we, with huge, rippling pectoralis major have to bear.

... but a huge chest makes you less aero Why do you think there are no females in the peloton?

I'm officially uncomfortable with the direction this conversation is heading in. I'm gonna turn this car around, I'm not kidding. Sorry to misquote you like that, though. The retraction will be printed in tomorrow's edition, I promise
