Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If these fit you, there you go!
https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ADME:B:SS:US:1

Anybody know anything about these? I can't seem to find them anywhere else, but I keep seeing them on ebay. The seller won't answer any of my questions, though.

-=schorsch=-

p.s. this is ok, right? since it's not my auction? hope so.

I never though by saying road shoes are dumb, people would want to nail cleats to my feet! Geeze! Calm down guys, I don't care if you like the fancy ones, they're just not for me.

So our dumb shoes aren't for you, but despite our dumb shoes, you'd like a little advice.

First piece of advice...don't insult the shoes that the majority of forum members use before asking them to suggest shoes that don't look like theirs.

Second piece of advice...check out danscomp.com for some clipless BMX shoes. They don't carry the ones I have any more but they still have some decent looking Vans.

that's what I have... I like them because they were cheapish, they're well ventalated, and fairly modest looking. I believe they're marketed as 'touring' shoes. i'm not sure what that means, but I think they're nice.

Dude, go back and re-read 'nothers post. Seemed to me like he was giving good advice. Matter of fact, he didn't use the word black in his post anywhere...

I use the shimanos that are pictured in post #16. Had them for about 1500 miles now and no complaints.

I did not take any offense to what he wrote as he said "thanks" to me. I think he just didn't make a new paragraph and that the rest of his reply was actually addressed to the other guys who were wondering whether it was a joke or suggesting that he nail cleats to his feet or some such. It's coo'

Specialized Sonoma, not super rigid, and the stitching kind of looks like something spiderman wears when he rides, but I like them.

To the OP: go get yourself a pair of Sidi Genius 5. I have the 2005 Model and they are mostly black except the buckle is red. The shoes are a little expensive but you get what you pay for.

+1 on the Sonoma. I wanted a shoe I could wear on the mtb and on the road bike. Bonus points for being able to comfortably walk around in them (relative to 'real' road shoes). I didn't like the stitching at first, but it's growing on me. Funny thing is, once I get done tying them on, I completely forget about them until it's time to take them off.

Heh. I felt the same way when I was looking for a new pair of kicks. I started expecting them to come with glowsticks and candy necklaces!

I ended up getting a pair of Sidi Rampa 3's. I liked them because they were very subdued but still had nice clean lines and overall good style. I read a couple of posts that people were concerned with snugness with only 2 velcro straps. But they're plenty snug for me and I have a narrow foot. YMMV, though.

Most cycling trends have way too much stuff going on. too many colors, logos, stripes, and overall craziness. Dosn't anybody make a road shoe that is the equivlent to the chuck taylor?

specialized shoes don't look too ridiculous. my pair has done well by me so far. I believe they are SPD compatible.

I'm personally much more concerned about how things work than what they look like. SPD cleats are okay but not really what you want on a road bike. You want a stiff - perferably carbon - sole which many of the suggested shoes lack. I suppose you probably don't wear kit when you ride either. To each their own. I think it is good to be seen. The Sidi's shown are great shoes but a bit expensive even for me. Here is what I'm wearing these days which I like alot:

I can see your point. I could have just as easily asked for simple looking shoes without busting on the others. Maybe I was being a jerk.
I have seen some nice ones thanks to everybody's advice. Thanks!
And Nother's correct, I just forgot to make a new paragraph.

I just want something simple and tasteful.
In case you hadn't noticed, there is nothing simple or tasteful about cycling apparel.
Can anyone really see what someone's shoes look like at 100 RPMs?

But to answer your question, just about any mountain shoe looks "normal."

I wear the Answer Tantric, which I think is pretty basic, but may be too gaudy for you.

No, but your post is. Why did you even bother to post if that was what you were going to write. Some people are f'n morons.
I think they thought it was a joke because cycling should have more to do with fitness, skill, and effort than how pretty one's shoes are. It just seems a bit shallow to care what your cycling shoes look like. I mean did you get into cycling because spandex shorts with a wad of diaper padding and shiney silver velcro shoes look awesome or is it because you like to ride a bike?
