Need some new tires
I currently ride on a pair of Michelin Pro Race 2. They are about 3 yrs old (haven't changed them since I bought the bike) and they have about 2000 miles on them. I noticed the other day, the rear tire was kinda "squared" off. I am about 180lbs and ride about 1500 miles/yr. Budget is about $60/tire, give or take.
I found some Vittoria EVO Open Corsa CX at probikekit.com for @ $37/ea. I know this is a good price, but didn't know if these tires "fit my profile".
Thanks,
Kevin

It's hard to beat Pro Race 2 tires, from what I've read here. What is your goal, what would you change about your existing tires? About the only way to improve on them for general use is to go with something more durable, at the cost of weight, stiff ride, and rolling resistance. For example, Armadillos are bullet proof, but feel like riding on hard airless rubber.

Okay, I'll throw my .02 in.
I have a pair of Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase I've been using for the last 1000 miles with no problems. I was tired of getting flats so I wanted something that was a little more bullet proof. The Bontrager's did not disappoint. The only bad thing is that they are heavy coming in at 330gr. I guess that's the trade off. I'd rather have an extra 100 grams if that means I wont have to change a flat out on the road.

I'm very happy with these which I've been riding since December:

Almost the same ride quality as EVO Open Corsa CX but so far have lasted much longer. EVO Open Corsa's only last maybe 2K miles if I'm lucky.

I used the Kenda C2C and they were great. On my new bike I'm using Panaracer stratus pro's. They have very good grip and a 150psi rating. I used too use Pro2s and GP4000s till I found Kenda makes just as good of a tire for half the price. The Panaracers wear faster but have a lot of grip and are on sale for $22 all the time. Last time Performance had a 20% of coupon I bought 4 sets.
As far as the Vittorias, get them their on sale.

These are two different tires, no? If so, what is the particular advantage of this?
Thanks,
Kevin

Nope, each tire is reversible, like a raincoat . One side is a slick, turn it inside out and the other has a slight tread. Marketed for summer/winter type conditions, however I've been running the tread side since December and they've been great. You can put them on however you want for whatever purpose... tread on the front & back... slick on the back, tread on the front, vice-versa.

I've put a few thousand miles on Pro Race 2s, and agree that they're terrific tires. I replaced my last set with Pro Race 3s, gotten reasonably from eBay, and they're just as good, though I doubt the claims that they're an improvement.
