Scarey moment on a bike at 30MPH

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah! I've never heard of anything so freakin' scary in my life. In fact, I've NEVER, EVER heard of any cyclist going through this before. You are one lucky dude.

Where did my nmessage go? Anyway here it is again:\

I was about .2 miles from home(start of ride) going down a hill at about 30 mph. All of the sudden a huge spider walks across my Oakleys and into my helmet, I am not afraid of spiders, I am the spider killer in my house. But at 30 mph when a spider scurries across your face it will FREAK YOU OUT! I finally got stopped thew off my helmet, glasses and shook out my shirt. Never did find it but I swear I could feel that sucker crawling on me the whole ride!

Yuck! I hate bugs. I have the same problem except with bees. They fly into the vents in my helmet and then get stuck in my curly hair and get really mad when they can't escape. That's why I'll often wear a doorag even in the summer just to keep the bees out.

No joke dude. I was doing a mtb group ride in Louisiana once and I was the "trail breaker". That means that I am sent out in front clear the spider webs that have grown across during the night. I hit one with my face and those of you that live down south know what I mean when I say it pulled my head back before breaking off of the branches. A little down the trail I can see the web hanging off of my helmet, no big deal. That is, until a huge brown object crawled down the side of my face in my field of vision.

Without stopping I ripped my helmet off and threw it to the ground and slapped wildly at every inch of my face. Luckily no one was around to see the show. I never found out how big the spider was, but when they are that close to a person's eye, it doesn't matter.

Eesh. Bees/wasps are the worst. Last week I was doing my best Rasmussen impression on a climb and a wasp flew into my open jersey. I looked down and saw him walking all over my lower stomach in a "WTF just ahppened to me" kind of manner. I grabbed him with my jersey, stopped and danced like a drunken bridesmaid until he was out.

OR

The time I hit a wasp with my face and it stung me on my lip. I walked into a bank to ask a teller if the stinger was still on me and sure enough, before I could say anything I got a look of horror. The stinger was still on me and the sac was pulsing it's goo into my lip. The spot that was stung still cracks and bleeds every other month 4 years later.

I hear ya !!! I got stung on the left thigh by a yellow jacket last September. The next day I had a welt about 2 inches around and it burned like hell. The funny thing is, I was wearing my "Honey Stinger" jersey !!!! I guess it said "Sting Here" to him !!!

I have a buddy that wears mountain bike shorts and a bee went up his shorts and stung him on the inner leg. He freaked out and hit the brakes and then did an end-o over the handlebars. He was o.k. thank goodness or I would have felt really bad for laughing so hard.

I would have just sat on the side of the road and laughed at the irony for 2 hours and 36 minutes.

I don't even know why they have stingers. They hang around flowers all damn day. What do you need a stinger for?

I am totally freaked by spiders. If that had happened to me I probably would have spotted my chamois.

LOL! About a month ago I thought I shat my bibs! I rode 25 miles home thinking that everyone that passed me was laughing at me, then took the side streets home.

not biking, but

I just started biking, but have been whitewater kayaking for years. Was inbetween rapids on a river when I felt something run up my leg inside the boat. Never got my sprayskirt off so fast before in my life. Turns out it was just a daddy longlegs.

Not a cycling story, but I was riding my motorcycle about a year ago...cruising along about 60mph and a wasp hit me in the face (or maybe I hit him in the a$$) and he stung my upper eyebrow. I was about 7 miles from home and by the time I got there, my eye was swolled shut...hurt like hell...

A few weeks back during a ride my partner just started freaking out and spitting everywhere, all of a sudden a HUGE BUMBLEBEE went flying out of his mouth. It got him in the tongue, but nothing serious.
