Suntour Accushift Barcons, what do I have?
I just bought home a 1988ish Miyata 615. The bike has Suntour Accushift Barcons with a 6-speed freewheel and a XCR 6000 rear derailleur.

Can I use a 7-speed freewheel or cassette with this shifter and derailleur?

The shifters say 7 speed, so go for it. You should stick with a 7 speed SunTour freewheel, though. It might work with a Shimano 7 speed cassette. Maybe the original FW was replaced with a 6 speed before you bought it? Do the wheels match?

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
The pairing of the Suntour shifters and a Shimano freewheel and a Shimano rear derailleur (with centeron pulley) can often result in satisfactory shifting... the cog spacing is not that far off with their 6 speed indexed systems and the Shimano derailleur is a little more forgiving because the guide pulley will adjust for small deviations.

I am using Accushift 7 speed barcons to index a Shimano 14-34 Megarange freewheel with a Suntour XC-T Accushift rear derailleur. It works perfectly.

Suntour accushift Barcons are 7 speeed accushift which should have 7speed ultra type freewheel (hard to find at a good price last pro I sold went for $100) and RD. If you run a 8speed chain and a nicer 7/8speed Shimano long cage DR with a Hypergluide 7 Freewheel you shoud get exceptiable to good shifiting. Also there is a good chance that you can get buy with OK shifing using your current DR with a HG 7 freehweel and nice 8/9speed chain.

I think I'm happy knowing that 6sp Accushift shifters with an Accushift derailleur will work on a 6 speed SIS or Accushift freewheel. From there, it makes sense that 6sp Accushift shifters, Accushift derailleur and 7sp SIS freewheel should work without a click on the big cog.
It's not just the cable pull ratios that make Accushift unique after 7sp- the spacing between the cogs on 6 and 7 is different.

Beyond that- just try what you've got and play with it.
My biggest indexing surprise was getting 6sp Dura Ace shifters to index with an Accushift XC Comp derailleur and an old 5sp Suntour Perfect freewheel (pre indexing days). That was unexpected and awesome.

I am good success with my Sprint Rd and DT shifters paired with a shimano 7spd cassette. It wasn't doing so good the other day when I grabbed a my only 8spd shipmano wheel by accident though.
