Interesting take on repairing an aluminum frame, not no attempt to align the loose tube, it's just "pinned" for lack of a better word.

Seller does say "it just needs to be put back together"

1970's VITUS FRENCH RACING BICYCLE ( project)

$200
Listed a day ago in Springfield, MO
  • Condition
    Used – good
This is a project late 70's early 80's VITUS French racing bike. The wheels do not go to this bike but this is one of the first all aluminum racing bikes they built when road racing got real popular back in the 70's & 80's. It has both derailers shifters pedals. Just needs to be put back together. $200.00

Might get some of your money bak in parts (cranks are Spidel)

Jokes aside, probably half of the good deals on Bianchis I have posted in the "Craigslist, Are you looking?" section were mis-spelled in the ad, seems to help the deal. My favorite recent one was "Banshee"

Those aren’t “tandems”. They are triples, quads, quints, etc. One of my local bike shops has a sextuplet (if I recall correctly) over the front door of the store. Quads and quints were prevalent in the very early 1900 and very late 1800s before motorcycles came along. They were used on tracks for pacing which is what drove a lot of the development of motorcycles.

Look at the crank, then look at the gear cable, then read the ad text.
Everything works

They're all tandems.

But who's arguing?

It's funny how so many people will misspell the brand name, even when it is clearly visible, in big bold letters, right there in the picture.

Cambridge dictionary defines tandem as “a bicycle made for two people who sit one behind the other” and “a tandem is also a bicyclebuilt for two people.”

I wonder if some misspellings are caused by the auto(in)correct feature of advertisers’ phones but then one would expect that they would notice it before sending off to the ether.

And not to mention how the meanings change with time even when used “incorrectly” because more are more people start associating the word with its newly assigned meaning. Irregardless is one of those annoying made up word now seemingly quite kosher.

I just don't know what more to say about this ad. I don't think the seller left anything out.
I pasted the text body of the ad for posterity.

This "journey" started with a Specialized Hot Rock Aluminum Alloy 20 Mountain Bike (which retailed for about $400 plus tax and/or shipping, depending on where one bought it from). I bought this bike for my daughter (a 9-year old) to accompany me in our family rides around Middlesex Fells, outside Boston. Getting this bike to start with was tough as my daughter insisted that the bike needed to be pink (and no other colors were acceptable)! At any rate, in the process the Hot Rock was upgraded with top-notch components (e.g. high-end Shimano drivetrain and brakes), which allowed my daughter to keep up with the "grown ups" in our rides. Selling because my daughter outgrew the bike (she's now moving on to a 24" wheel-size one).
Here's Specialized's description of the Hot Rock and the details of all the upgrades:
Kids love to ride, but they also grow like weeds, which always leaves parents in a bit of a conundrum: Do you splurge on your child's bike when they'll likely grow out of it in a few years? That's why we made our Hotrock 20—a well-priced and designed bike with plenty of gear range to tackle the neighborhood hills, and enough front-end travel to ride beginner's trails confidently.
The Hotrock also features a lightweight and tough 20-inch A1 premium aluminum frame that's designed to take a hit while they find their legs on the pump track. Chatter and bumps, meanwhile, are handled by the coil-sprung SR Suntour fork's 40mm of travel.
Then there are a whole host of other components that are plenty tough enough to stand up to your little ripper, so you can rest assured that you'll be spending more time riding with your kid and less time waiting in line at the repair counter.
- Tough, light, and durable, the A1 Premium Aluminum frame is built to stand up to years of tough riding.
- SR Suntour XCT-JR suspension fork offers 40mm of coil-sprung travel that smooths out bumpy, rough terrain.
- 20-inch Renegade tires provide plenty of grip both on- and off-road.
Specs & Upgrade Details:
- Frame: A1 Premium Aluminum hardtail frame. I've added a water bottle holder and bigger seat post + handlebar reflectors. Cost: $16 plus labor.
- Fork: SR Suntour XCT-JR, 40mm of travel (coil spring), preload, adjustable.
- Tires: 20-inch Specialized Renegade. Replaced with Schwalbe Smart Sam 20x2.35. Cost: $80 plus labor.
- Shifters: Replaced with Shimano RevoShift, 7-speed. Note: This is a 7-speed bike with right-only shifter and rear-only derailleur. Shift housings/casings replaced with Shimano OP-SP41 pre-lubricated shifter housings/casings. Shift cables replaced with teflon coated stainless-steel shifter cables. Brake housings replaced with Shimano M-System pre-lubricated brake housing/casing. Brake cables replaced with teflon coated stainles s-steel brake cables. Cost: $78 plus labor.
- Rear derailleur: Replaced with Shimano Altus. Cost: $58 plus labor.
- Cassette: Replaced with Shimano MF-TZ500-7, Multiple Freewheel - HYPERGLIDE - 3x7-speed, which features a MEGARANGE 14-28T and 14-34T range (excellent for kids to keep up with adults when riding together!). Cost: $57 plus labor.
- Chain: Replaced with Shimano HG-40 6/7/8-Speed Chain. Cost: $19 plus labor.
- Saddle: Replaced with Serfas, Reactive Gel (female-specific) saddle. Cost: $49 plus labor.
- Brake set: Shimano v-brake. Replaced brake levers with Shimano Servo-Wave Action (high-end, adjustable) levers. Also replaced brake pads with Shimano Deore M70T3, and replaced housings and cables as outlined above. Cost: $68 plus labor.
As one call tell from the list above, I am about $809 plus labor into this bike (considering the cost of the bike and all the upgrades). Asking $425 O.B.R.O (Or Best *reasonable* Offer). Cash Only. Local deal only (no shipping). No scams please. If the ad is still up, the bike is still available. When contacting me, please include your email and phone number to convey that you're a serious / legit buyer. Thanks for looking!
