My L/R balance gets closer to 50/50 as my power output goes up and farther from 50/50 as it goes down. Wouldn't want a power meter that only measured one side.

I'm on a 4iiii purchased from clevertraining.com for $369 with a discount code. love it, great data, very easy to install and use, pairs with my garmin 510 first time every time.

My question with this one - can you pair a shimano 105 with a higher group-o or do they not intermingle? Or is that just weight/quality.

Though true, I have a L-only PM and find it very reliable in terms of repeatability. Works well enough for my needs, and cheaper than dual. Depends what you want out of your PM.

Bought the same 4iii referenced above, for the same price with a coupon. No tissues at all. I am no racer, and my results seem very typical, so for me it works. Cheap as well!

Go to DC Rainmakers site, find the review of the 4iii, and there should be a code for 10% off at clevertraining.com.

Also of note, I would imagine at some point in the future that 4iii will trickle down the dual side from Dura Ace through 105 (I hope!) so the single side may be made dual in the future. or so I hope.

They quite happily intermingle. I got a 105 4iiii and I swap it between two bikes, one with an 11 speed 105 crankset and the other with a 10 speed Ultegra crankset.

I got the 4iiii mainly to use with Zwift on a dumb direct drive trainer. A PT hub wouldn't work in that situation.

I have the 105 4iiii on a dura-ace crank, mates perfectly, it's about 20grams heavier that's it. just make sure you get the same length

about the dual sided vs single sided thing - my right leg is stronger, and having a left side meter has forced me to even out my pedal stroke (benefit in my mind). also, it keeps my numbers realistic and very repeatable and reliable across rides/terrain.

Not sure what length is on my 2013 Cannondale Synapse. Alloy. Shimano 105. HMMMM.

it'll be stamped on the inside of the crank arm, probably either 170, 172.5, or 175 (common on most production bikes), although women's bikes are sometimes spec'd with 165

Powertap. I have both the GS hub and C1 rings. Both are truly set and forget. Though I picked up the GS hub new for $210, $400 is still a great deal. Thing is, you have to have a 24 hole rim and probably will need new spokes in addition to the cost of a wheel build if you can't do it yourself. I think it ended up costing me about $120 for 24 CX-Ray spokes and the build. You can pick up dentist's special(almost brand new) C1 chainrings pretty easily for around $400 on ebay. IMO, all of the single sided stuff are outdated. For $100 more, you can get true dual sided Powerbeat.

What kind of power differences are there between legs on folks? 3%? 5%?

If you don't have dual side, how do you know? I would think the only way to balance is to be able to see both legs. I too am stronger right leg, and I struggle to even it out. I have gotten much better, but it's taken a lot of work. The more you work, the more both legs progress...

60/40 % L/R when I'm tooling around, down to 52/48 % when I'm working pretty hard. A left-only meter will double whatever power is coming from the left leg so for me it would be 20 % over when I'm not trying very hard.

It's different every second of every ride.
