The next one I got finished was a three wheeler I traded a friend some small engine parts for about 3yrs ago. When I got it it was pretty clean and the chrome was in real good shape but the wheels were bent up pretty good and the basket was junk and then sitting outside for 3yrs didn't help the chrome at all so I needed to polish and give it a OA bath. Overall the trike came out nice and will make someone a good grocery getter on the island.

I was able to finish another bike that has been sitting on the back burner for a while, it's a 58cm Jetter ( a Shogun B brand ) road bike that I picked up last summer at a yard sale for $20 along with a mens Free Spirit and extra wheels.

The frame is made of Tange 900 DB tubes so it was a little better then gas pipe but nothing special, there was something about it that I just liked plus it was my size. It had mismatched wheels 700 on the rear 27" up front and a bunch of junk components that didn't work right along with a pair of Bull Moose bars that had been shortened and as it turned out the fork had been bent way over to the ND side of the frame.

I then picked up a Trek 1000SL with 8spd STI's that had a bad frame free from a friend and that's what gave me the idea to build this bike. The only real problems I had building it was finding a front fork that would work and getting a RD hanger the right length to keep the jockey wheels from hitting the cassette when on the small ring up front and big small combo.

The only fork that I could find around here that would work was off a Panasonic ATB with 26" wheels it had the same measurements as the stock fork and a 700c wheel fit like it was meant for it, I drilled it for recessed mount brakes ( NOS Shimano RX100 ) as I did the rear also. The RD hanger was a modified Suntour unit I made work.
Overall I love this bike, it is one of the most comfortable road bikes I have ridden in a long time. After I took the photos I bought it back in to my shop and installed my front & rear lights a under the seat bag with all my tools and my lock, this bike will be ridden the most out of all my bikes as I like it that much.

What's wrong with the Trek frame? Looks pretty contemporary. (CF fork)
If your friend is the original owner, ask if he has the receipt still. Trek warranty is pretty good, they may replace the frame.

I just finished some mods to clean up the cockpit and make it more comfortable for me.

When I first got the bike, I changed out:
. the seat (currently a vintage Wrights W3.N)
. derailleur (put a functioning Suntour aRX to match original equipment; it came from my Nishiki Olympic 12)
. pedals (also from the Oly 12).
. added a Flickstand from sirpoopalot

More recently, I added
. Ergo handlebars and aero brake levers (from ddeadserious)
. Suntour Bar-Con shifters (from Capecodder)
. new cables and housings, routed under the handlebar wrap
. Sugino RT 175 mm drillium cranks, (also from the Oly 12).
. I put on new Cinelli natural cork handlebar wrap and used twine at the ends
. I also trued the wheels and removed the dork disk from the rear wheel

Just finished, Custom built Australian made frame but dont know the builder it has all the attributes of a great racing frame with Columbus SL frame Campy dropouts Cinelli BB.
This was my first try at painting and I'm already thinking about trying again with a solid metallic color. I'm not sure about this color scheme and the fading didn't work but I just want to ride it for now.

My son dragged me, kicking and screaming, back into road biking. After he found an old Takara in the back of the garage that we fixed up, and we did a 25 mile run, him on that, ME on a Target Mt Bike, I HAD to get a road bike. The economy being what it was (and still is) I found a 79 LeTour IV at a rummage sale for $25. It was mostly working, but needed a thorough going over. Cables, tires, Lube, more lube, cleaning, derusting, then ended up stripping it down and repainting. New (used) 700s, new brake levers, bar tape, seat, bits here and there. I felt kind of bad in taking off the few stickers that remained, but the paint was really nicked up, and RUST in FL is a problem, so it was dealt with. Probably NOT going to bother with new Schwinn decals as it would cost more than the bike! A 79 LeTour IV just doesn't have the value to bother.

Last fall I picked up a 72 Paramount on the cheap. It had been well used, but at some point had been stripped to bare metal and then poorly repainted. All off the chrome (if there had been any to start with) and original paint were gone. At some point the rims, saddle and toe straps were replaced with 90's vintage stuff.

This is the only before picture I have.

The Paramount is the blue thing hanging in the background without a rear wheel.

Here is what it looks like with a $100 worth of powder coat and replica decals.

Some of the parts are not period correct, but this bike was not really restoration material to begin with. I still don't know what color hood and tape should go on it. And I do have my old Brooks from 1989 ready for installation.

The first ride will be this weekend.

And now the rest of the After. I had a wreck with the bike where the derailleur got caught up and pulled around, bending the derailleur hanger and dropout:



I beat it back into shape, but the hanger is hopelessly deformed. I recently came across a wheel on CL with a 2-speed SA kick shift hub and put it on there, along with some other parts from swap meets and here we go.... ghetto cruiser:
