I love what you did with the shifters. I'm going to steal that when I convert the flyer to an IGH.

-2 style points for no second water bottle cage or installing bolts to fill the holes. For shame!

Sweet build and those coated racks were a great idea.

Very nice, Justin!!! Your parents are lucky to have a son who puts so much thought and time into making these wonderful bikes for them! I agree with your earlier comment that this is your most polished build to date. Keep up the fantastic work... who's the next lucky recipient of a JH build?

Let's see some more close-ups of that headlight mount? Where'd you find it?!

And not to be critical, but -2 points for using leather washers on the upper rack stays and at the chainstay bridge.

Thanks, Anton. The light mount is made from a Dia Compe side pull. I've seen that before somewhere. I don't have a pic handy that shows the barrel spacer that allows the light to clear the mount arm.

I could have used rubber washers, but I needed something to protect the finish and absorb vibration.

Special thanks to southpawboston and fender1 for helping me with the brakes after I broke one of them.

Mom's bike is next. She's excited too. Sanyo dynamo hub, XRF-5(w), Dove bars, Weinmann 750s, 700x35 Paselas, Brooks B18, etc.

For whatever it's worth, my new Cross Check has 700x35 Paselas. I like them a lot, and they measure exactly 37mm in width on CR-18 rims.

What a crappy bike.

No, really, it's completely awesome. I wish I was your dad. Wait, no, that's not what I meant.

I've got to remember this thread for when the day comes that I am limited to a bike or two. Fantastic job Justin with great thought put into every detail and great innovation! I love those coated racks.

Thanks. I'm not even sure I could estimate how much time I put into this build. It was a lot. Hours and hours. Worth every minute, though.

The end result of that bike is that it looks like something that would be coming out of something like Antbikes for 5k, but the fact that you sourced and did it all yourself makes it all the cooler. Well done.

This is such an inspiring mix of old and new. The extra hand position is so creative, very cool.

Email sent...

What did you use for the brace/shaft/spacer thing between the fender and chainstay bridge?

I keep aluminum barrel spacers like that in various lengths in my bike hardware box. A 5M bolt fits perfectly inside the spacers and they're available in various lengths. I used one here as well.

Stunning bike! How does your dad like it?

-2 style points for not lining up your valve stems with the tire labels

He really loves it!

I lined up the valve stems with the inflation rating, not the brand label.
