Gary Fisher vs Giant
Hello all - I am looking to purchase a 17" x 26" mtb frame to swap all my components from my 2005 19" Fuji Outland pro bc it is too big. I am looking at these two frames which appear to be in comparable condition.
Gary Fisher Tassajara Genesis (Here)vs Giant XTC SL (Here)
I feel the Gary Fisher might be a better value but don't know too much about either and would like to hear what the experts have to say.

What shape is everything in? Is it worth throwing towards a new frame? If I had my choice which I did I went with a frame from Habanero as I wanted titanium and 26 and he delivered (he had one already and might have others) Nothing fancy but a nice titanium frame for the price. I sold the bike to a friend but she didn't need the frame and didn't have the money so I took the frame back and will rebuild it into something else.
Not knowing the condition either of those frames are in I wouldn't really want them unless I could look at them first and make sure there are no dents and cracks or other damage. There are probably better frames out there if I didn't say go Hab.

Based on the pictures I wouldn't touch the Gary Fisher, its missing the der hanger, has visible chain drop damage, and clear tire rub that makes the non-drive side chainstay questionable. As a whole the frame looks hard ridden and not well kept. The Giant OTOH looks reasonably decent and well kept. When new these were the upper end of the low range or the lower end of the mid range, nothing special but a good all around bike.

My opinion is if you're dead set on one or the other, get the giant.
If holding out is an option, do that first. The fisher is too beat up and giant's not my favorite.
Watch yard sales and second hand stores too. I gave 5 bucks for this trek as a frame only at a yard sale with nothing not even a derailleur hanger.

The giant is in far better shape than the Gary Fisher. Don't forget to look at Trek 6000, 6500, 6700, 8000 and 8500 models which were handbuilt frames in the USA, lightweight and very durable frames.

Oh nice, I will look out for them. Yeah I looked at the fisher again after the first comments and that thing is pretty beat compared to the Giant. Eyes start going funny when you been looking at bikes for hours. Thanks!
