Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Vittoria Rally tires

Just a question about tubular tires

I have now used the Ambrossis wheel build for only 125+Kms with a Vittoria Rally 28-25 with tub tape, I have now noticed that the tire rides now with a bump and the tire is slightly wider after the valve for six or so inches.

A is it the cheap training tire

B has I mucked up the fitting of the tub tape and tire

Thanks for your thoughts
Chris

I've been riding Rally's for years and one of the tradeoffs for a tire that costs $17.00 from Wiggle is that there are occasional blemishes, including bumps at the valve stem. I have never had a bump that I could not get used to. I have ridden Corsas in the past when they were " only " $45.00 and find little difference in ride quality. I too ride on Ambrosio rims ( Nemesis ). Great rims, far superior to the crap Mavic has put out for the last 20 years! Enjoy!

A. They're lumpy tires.

Tufo's inexpensive tires are more round and pretty durable, if not so supple, IMO.

The " not so supple " part soured me on Tufos. They are nicely put together, but were too jarring....

A. Probably - lumps are usually a tire construction issue; a bad tape job wouldn't make the tire wider at any section.

B. Maybe - was this Tufo tape or something else? I haven't heard of many lumpy stories, but some tapes are thicker'n others so... maybe.

tubular tire sewup tire Servizio Corse $19.95 tubular tires at Yellow Jersey; possibly the Best Value Tubular In America for 2017! has some inexpensive tubulars worth checking out. They are a huge improvement over Vittoria Rally tires, and about the same price.

Tufo tape is very thin.
