I like the looptail.
Who hasn't wanted a carbon bike with Tourney shifters?
I bet it has steel handlebars and seatpost

It looks like a carbon headtube in the front. But the rear stays look like steel.
One should be about 20 miles away, perhaps I'll try to find it tomorrow.

Perhaps we'll see a new style of carbon fiber hitting the market.
When I think of carbon fiber, I think of a fabric with resin binding. But, perhaps one could also simply injection mold a fiber reinforced plastic.
It should also be noted how cheaply fiberglass products can be made, and it is generally done with a random oriented mat.
So, if the raw materials for carbon fiber drop in cost, we might see falling prices. That is unless the carbon fiber guild can prop them back up.

Thanks for the video.
Only Walmart can make a 30 pound carbon fiber bike.
Thinking about this, we're seeing an influx of < $250 or so carbon fiber frames direct from China.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/20-5-27-5er...e/183109596749
Walmart likely can purchase in bulk, bulk ship, and acquire them much cheaper.
$100 per frame? Plus, $100 for the rest of the bike? Then a huge markup.
I suppose the question then is, why didn't Walmart do this earlier?
It is an odd market that they've chosen. 26" is very much passe, but perhaps they'e marketing to the young teenager market. Who wants to be the first kid to ride a carbon fiber bike to middle school?

I'm sure that's pretty much their market. Parent wants bike for their child. The new carbon model is nice and light. Buy that one. It's actually decently lightweight for the price. I'm not sure one could find a lighter weight, $400 bike at a bike shop. I was in Walmart the other day, saw the bike, and almost grabbed it just for grins. Two things would improve it: 1) A rigid fork, and 2) A freewheel hub.

The use of freewheel has been too off-putting to me though. I would have to trash the wheelset and the entire drivetrain along w/it, and that's kind of a waste.

It's a wierd thing to beyond when you spend pretty much all the money on the frame and the rest of the bike is junk components pretty much.

Yeah, I understand the maths. I get the "what to do with all the junk" parts thing ...
I was thinking about a CL bike with busted parts as a resale way to recycle all the "junk" and get somebody riding for $50~$100. And I end up with the frame.
I'd like frame with a straight steer tube 1-1/8" as I have donor forks already. And this one fill that requirement.
I can buy just a frame for 1/2 what the Carbon X goes for and pick and choose my components at will. Except most of those are already transitioned to tapered head sets ...
I already have a bunch of odds and ends. Looking for somewhere to hang most of it ... Thinking MTB based Gravel Bike

Thief deterrent
in an effort to thwart bike thieves I put a Walmart sticker on my titanium touring bike. It’s worked like a charm, the bike has been halfway around the world and
nobody has stolen it yet
nobody has stolen it yet

Brilliant, clearly you value actually riding a very decent bike more than advertising the fact you have a great bike like many bike brand snobs. You also see the opposite where someone has a cheap department store bike with very poor front shocks and they remove the stickers from the front shocks and put on Rockshox stickers or similar in order to improve the street cred of the bike. I've also seen really nice bikes where they have grunged them up with rubbish paint jobs and naff stickers and even speckled on watery brown paint in order to look like rust on aluminium parts. I've seen this at Bristol here in the UK which probably has a very high bike theft rate. Some people have just endured too many bike thefts and will try anything to put off thieves.
