Remco Evenepoel shows some real class

There are more important things than this victory

Been a fan of his for a while, but this cements him as near the top of my list. Huge talent and looks to have a good heart and good head on his shoulders as well.

It's pretty amazing what he's doing... and yeah, he seems like a nice guy. There's a lot of talk about how this new generation is going to be great, but I'm starting to wonder if anyone will be able to seriously challenge him going forward.

I think it depends on the amount of pure climbing in the GTs. If they keep having them be simply a show of a couple of sprint stages and a bunch of mountain top finishes, pure climbers like Bernal or Yates will be hard to beat. But if they move back toward a parcourse that favors and strong all-rounder, Remco will be hard to control. Especially if TTs make a comeback.
Can't wait to see what Remco can do in the Giro this year. And MVDP in the spring classics and world champs. Not to mention Oly MTB. Good times to be a cycling fan.

IIRC his power to weight ratio is very good. I'm not sure he'll be distanced by the pure climbers, but I agree if he's going to be beaten, that seems to be the way to do it.

Someone with more racing expertise can tell me if I'm wrong, but I feel like Van Der Poel will be more of a classics type rider while Evenepoel will be more of a GT rider. VDP isn't likely to ever be an elite climber. Evenepoel beat him by 3 minutes up the cat 1 climb yesterday while Van Der Poel has shown to be a very good sprinter, particularly at the end of a hard ride. I will be curious to see how Van Der Poel does in the time trial on Sunday. Van Aert showed he was pretty good at those.

I think you just might be correct with your thoughts. We are just fortunate to have such great young talent coming along in the sport.
