We have two bikes with all Schwalbe rim strips, and one which has Velox on the front and Pedros on the back. The Pedros one did not stick well, and managed to come loose causing a monster puncture. I ended up pulling it taut and using gaffer tape to seal it. Needless to say, I prefer Velox.

I needed something quick and my LBS only had Pedros in my size. Took it home and tried it once - no sticky-sticky. Reseated the entire strip again and pressed down hard - tape stuck to my finger several times, so I had to powder down the strip to keep from sticking. Checked tube the other day after a ride and find the strip moves way too easy.

I'm gettin' some Velox soon before I get me a rim-hole flat.

Good luck taking it off after, this has tons of glue, both sides of tape.

Then you can say, "My rim strips are better than Velox, as they are basically weightless."
Don't do it. I used this stuff and eventually found it punching through the spoke hole under higher pressure. I kept getting intermittent flats when I pumped beyond 100PSI. The tube holes looked like little bullet holes on the inside (rim side) of the tube. Since changing to velox I have not had a a single flat.

Well it is Velox (I just went and looked), and I was charged like $6.50 for 2 rolls, which is cheaper than the Performance stuff. I weighed the unused one on my postal scale and it weighs 16g.
Aren't you afraid that all that extra weight will cost you a podium spot?

Some stuff just works well and is not worth any additional thought or research...Velox tape is one of those things.

If he drills out the useless sections of strip between the spoke holes he should be able to shave off at least three seconds in a theoretical time trial to Mars.

Also, I notice Velox is pretty free with that blue ink they use to label the strips. That's got to weigh something. Maybe we can lobby the company to make some label free versions.

This is about as modern as the cotton bar tape I used in the 1970s.
Surely there should be many plastic tapes that protect at least as well, but lighter and without adhesive.

Why no "Vectran" rim tape?

kapton tape might be the lightest option and has been used for tubeless setups, high temp resistance and light and thin.

another 'best' dueling opinion thread..

I put A set of yellow, Michelin Hi Lite , fused loop plastic rim strips
in my Mavic rims on wheels I built over 30 years ago ,
and they're still OK. in there..

Cloth bar tape holds moisture and can cause corrosion and rust. Ask me how I know. I use panaracer poly-lite on all my wheels. Works fine. The schwalbe tape is also good.

I just got my uber-clyde wheelset from Velocity today. They came with some really flush fitting plugs. I was skeptical, but the guy I talked with on the phone was pretty certain they're all I'll need. I have some Velox in the toolbox, but I'll give these a shot. If I get nervous about 'em, I'll put a wrap over 'em.

You revived an 11 year old thread. Of course there are different options today. Please tell folks what rims, tires and tubes you are using. Velox is great still for many road clincher applications but in today’s market with tubeless, tubeless ready, etc... Velox may be too thick.

i have a wheelset with Velocity A23 rims that I barely got to work with Velox. The Velox makes tire fitting tighter with some tires. There are lots of brands of thin tape on the market now that are designed for tubeless applications that are said to also work well with both butyl and latex inner tubes.
