i was in this race. the race was already blown apart before the hail came, which was about 5-10 minutes of mostly flat riding before the finish. that accumulation you see in the video happened in that 5-10 minutes. interesting to see he had a large gap at that point in the race (if you can't see another rider at that turn with ~1.5k to go you've got 10-15 seconds or more. that 2 other riders finished right on his heels is pretty amazing (esp in that weather). the 2" gap implies that things were tight and maybe coming down to a sprint, but fortunately that wasn't the case.

you can really see how sketchy the handling got by how gingerly he takes that corner (>90*).

if the skies had to open up during the race, that was probably the best possible time. m45-49 were 10' behind us and would have been hit early on in the decisive climb.

if it happened 1h earlier, we'd probably have had 80+ riders from my field facing hypothermia.

my family couldn't believe the size of the welts i had from that hail when i returned home yesterday.

how's that work? is it a mass start that also meets the minimum distance? how many miles is it to the top?

good luck and have fun!

Hmm, didn't think about distance. I'm cat 5 and the race was 12 miles. Min road is 15, min crit is 10. It says if the rr is shorter, but longer than crit minimum it counts for crit points schedule. Since 5s don't upgrade by points, I am guessing it counts. May as well count it and try to upgrade when I hit 10.

Btw, I crashed in a crit and assumed that's a DNF, but the results show DNP... whats up w that? is a DNP a finish? I didn't finish.

And another bites the dust.. final CCCX in two weeks cancelled too! =[

It woulda be a low-turnout event I'm sure, but I was looking forward to it..

I guess I should just come to terms with the fact that the season has to end at some point.. Oakland & Coppertown still scheduled though, I'll be at both. Cat 2's scored separately at Oakland too, woo hoo.

Hmm I thought my season will be over with trip to Germany, but I am thinking of doing Oakland and Coppertown. Assuming the weather holds up.
Speaking of CCCX, their final race last year was a small disaster. In 4's there was a crash what seemed every other lap on that U turn. At one point I was on fourth wheel and all three people in front of me crashed. Barely managed to avoid them.

Oh God the "Bay View", yeah I agree with you on that one.

Last year they had it at some development, with all the crap from construction on the road, with a U turn on a damp road on down hill.

In for Oakland and Coppertown. Was kind of a bummer to see both Concord and CCCX drop off.

Well I am out of Oakland, and probably calling it end of season. Crashed on my bike this morning. Was practicing sprinting and I think chain dropped from front chainring. Lost the front and went sliding on my hip and arm at 30mph. Tons of road rash, back wheel has a snapped spoke, but most importantly I don't have a faith in my bike now. Its a new chainring. Still Dura Ace but newer one. I don't know why the chain dropped, everything looked well adjusted. Just don't want to have that at the back of my mind as I am going for a finish line all out. Will bring it to outfitters see what they say, and see if back wheel is salvageable.

Bent tooth somehow? I've seen that where a tooth is slightly bent towards the outside causing the chain to kind of roll off of the chain ring. It usually won't happen under steady small efforts, but violent tough bursts will throw it off. Does the chain shift around on the chain ring at all? Put it on a stand and peddle forward slowly to see if it does, or if there's a point where it kind of snaps back into place
