Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is white the new black or is black the new white?

Quick, why do you love/hate white frames? What is the best frame color?

I don't like the color white. I will never own a white car, I don't have white clothes and even the walls in my house are al non-white. The last bike i bought came with a white frame and I loved it. Looked amazing. And very shortly it was demanding some respect with all the dirt it was sporting. Great frame color.

I love the white frames, I think they look great. Maybe it's because white it's so bright and contrasts so well with pretty much every environment without being flashy. White saddles and bar tape are also FTW. White parts - wheels, stems, bars - that's taking it too far, but that's going to be the 2009 theme for components, mark my words. You can now get white spokes. Horrors. There's going to be a white backlash in the next couple years, and it's a real shame because white bikes should never go out of style.

I ride a white bike - it is super-hot when it is clean.

How frequently is it clean?... not nearly often enough to get me to buy another white one.

I love white frames. Not sure why but they always look good. I don't have one now but I've had a couple of white MTBs in the past.

Everyone is putting white in their kit this year. My USAC team has a new kit for this year with lots of, that's right, white! It is a nice-looking design, a bit more modern than the early-2000's look of the older kit.

White bikes are sexy. I want a white with black accents bike some day. Race only bike, it would be too hard to keep clean for training.

White frameset/saddle/tape, everything else black, with a little pink or red or something bright to catch the eye.

From the title, I thought you had been to the Ritchey site and saw the photo of their handlebar display at a show.

Anyway, my Ritchey BreakAway is black and white. Unfortunately the rear triangle mostly white. I rarely ride in the rain because I just don't like to. However, it is not unusual to pass through areas with a little water running across the street. Just enough to cause a fine spray and mist which dries into a nice visible layer of stuck on dust...

White is pretty when new, not so much as it ages. I've got a mid-'80s white bike that is now distinctly beige-ish around the rear triangle and BB. Not a sexy look.

Hi garysol1,

Thanks for the plug.

Actually, if I'd had a choice I'd have gotten a different color. White looks great but I had two different Look frames that had a lot of white on them and white is a pain to keep clean. Also, while you're cleaning it the dirt initially smears and makes it look worse.

I can hardly wait to get the R3 dirty.

Thanks for the plug also gary...not even kidding...i bought the bike strictly because it was white...i have always wanted a white bike. i could have gotten the SL2 at an unreal deal but the difference in the frames didn't matter enough for me to give up the white and spend another 1k or so.

it is a pain to keep clean though, but man is it pretty when it is.
