@Drillium Dude @noglider Thank you
This is my wife's family (pink tank top) and theyve been very supportive of my bike rides and events. They look forward to my next event since it give us a chance to have a mini vacation. Whether itd be an event to Rosarito, Palm Springs or at home in Los Angeles its a nice time we spend together.
Tom that's a beautiful shot of the beach. And you're right. Some riding is better than no riding.

@obrentharris that's a great picture! cheers
My biking is over for the year. I went down hard yesterday. Ambulance to the hospital then Scans, X-rays taken and thankfully no brain swelling. I had a concussion, road rash on my arms, knuckles, and hip, I also re-broke my collar bone (same I broke in July), broke several ribs, cuts on my face stitched and glued and oddly enough, even though I was wearing a helmut, had a gash in my scalp that was stapled together. I put a photo on my flickr page kf you're interested in how it looks but will spare you the detail here
I hurt all over this morning
luckily, I was riding with others.
I need to re-think my way of riding. I do too much of it alone and I know I need to slow down and be more cautious.

Got to take a couple of nice early fall rides up in Pike Forest which was closed for a lot of the summer from forest fires.

@northbend - So sorry for the unscheduled event. I understand the pain. Wishing you the best and speedy recovery.
Yesteday's ride was along a route that I frequently take. It includes a path along the Rappahannock, Rappahannock Canal, a short ride up a hill, the VCR trail and Lee Dr. Here are pics from the river, Canal and Lee Drive.

I had a leisurely 40 miles, 2 out-n-back (on different bikes) on my usual trail.
It was uneventful, relaxing and most importantly = I missed the HORSE PUCKY.

Dang, @northbend, that sucks. This has been an exceptionally unlucky year for you.
FWIW, having ridden behind you several times, I have known you to be a recklessly fast rider... but only going uphill.

The injuries people have reported serve as a reminder to me to be grateful for my health. I might feel triumphant about my improving condition, about how I've set goals and achieved them. But as they say, man proposes and God disposes. My health hinges somewhat on how I manage it and somewhat on luck.

It's terrifying to see how quickly things can go from beautiful September ride pictures to you being back in a hospital bed.
After your July accident, you described what factors during a descent had contributed to a crash and broken collar bone.
How about the more recent incident? Any tips for the rest of us on how to minimize risks of future accidents?
Heal well and we are wishing you all the best.

The crash happened on a road I've ridden countless times before. Sharp little downhill with a nearly 75-80 deg. left turn at the bottom then a stop sign after the turn; All this crammed into a space approximately 1 city block long. You always check your speed at the top of the hill and slow down because you just finished descending a gentile mile long stretch on good pavement where it's easy to be traveling at 30mph. I would guess my speed going into the turn at 15mph, certainly under 20. It had started to rain lightly maybe 10 minutes before..
My last recollection was my front wheel going out from underneath me at the apex of the turn - real quick like ice. Woke up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
I am really shook up over this, my second bad fall in 3 months, this being the worst I've ever had - ever. My confidence is shot I feel horrible for putting my wife though this and feel very humbled by the whole thing. I haven't reached any conclusions yet but I know that changes are needed with how I ride my bikes.
