Shimano r500 wheel set tubeless?

I saw a bike the other day with the r500 wheels and tubeless tires on it. Can you make any rim tubeless, even entry level wheels?

Thanks

You can put tubeless tires on any rim (or at least any hook bead rim) with tubes.
There are methods of going ghetto tubeless using Gorilla tape or split tubes that are common on mountain bikes. Don't hear of it much on road tires - likely cause the small volume of air in a road tire burping at high speed would be disastrous while it's just an annoyance on a large volume mountain bike tire.

Road tubeless is much more dependent on the road tubeless tires, with their special beads that will remain air tight at very high pressures, than the rims. With a properly sealed road rim, using something like a couple of layers of yellow Stan's rim tape, most road rims can be set up with road tubeless tires and run at pressures appropriate for road tubeless. Road tubeless is quite a different situation than setting up tubeless on mountain bikes. With road tubeless (let's define that with tires in the 23-32mm width range and pressures from approx. 60-100psi), the key is to absolutely use tires that are specifically made to be used tubeless.

One observation. Despite the tires being labeled as "tubeless", it is quite possible they are being run with tubes. Can you ask the owner?

Yep, I've put Road Tubeless tires on maybe seven different kinds of rims, always with Stan's tape. Works perfectly.
