I was riding on a paved bike trail today with my wife and I just had to know "what'l she do ?"
On the tallest chain ring, and smallest rear gear, I hit 18.6 MPH. I think with an easier gearing with faster cadence, I could go faster.
BTW my wife and I were the Only people on the trail, and this was with platform pedals.

So how fast have you taken your Clyde Ride?

I hit 31.8 mph North bound feeder ( Texas City Area) of hwy, 45 flat section with a tail wind.

52-12 gearing. Could have gone to the 11 cog, but one knee was hurting.

Knee pain is why I backed off, I bet you could get reall moving off the old Causeway.
I might try hitting one of the 225 elevated ramps in a shorter gear.

At my fastest, I could just touch 30mph in a full-tilt sprint using my compact crank.

Riding downhill, or with the wind at my back, I can go considerably faster. Best part of my ride down the Pacific Coast was effortlessly pedaling my 52lb touring bike at 25+mph, thanks to a healthy tail-wind...

I've gone a lot faster than I should, did and endo and broke off 2 teeth and skinned my arms and face. I don't try to go that fast any more.

I routinely hit 30mph on my flat commute home, sprinting with traffic from light to light on my 44/18 singlespeed.
I've maxed my brevet bike at 56.something coming down a massive hill.

My fastest was on the big downhill at Timberman 70.3 last year, 46 MPH. It was thillifying.

On what passes for downhills in North Texas I've done 33.3 (in a pack and coasting otherwise I would have pedaled to see how fast I could get). On a flat straight I've done 27.4 (25 MPH tailwind) and 23.1 (15 MPH headwind).

I hit 53 mph on a short but steep hill on my Cyclocross bike. I can sprint on a flat road up to 31 mph and hold it for about 600 ft.

My fastest was 62mph going down the backside of Big Bear MT, in CA. I lost a spoke then had to slow down.

If you were in your tallest gear and only doing 18.6 it was probably too big a gear and you would go faster with lower gear faster cadence. I'm going to guess you have MTB type gears so your geared lower than a road bike becaus a cadence of 90 in a 52-11 gear should have you up over 30mph.

In the mid '90s a charity ride (I can't remember the name and can't find the T-shirt) that used the Kemah bridge was the last really good, hard ride I've had before my knee injury. The bridge was right after a rest stop and I bombed up and down it, I've no idea how fast I went, but spun out a 53-12. Mucho affection for that bridge!

Did you ride the Galveston bridge on the Houston-Galveston ride?

I recall that I've seen 28 mph on the flats on my Long Haul Trucker, but I usually cruise at about 15 to 18 mph. Going downhill I chicken out at about 42 to 45 mph. Any faster than that and I feel like I should be wearing leathers instead of spandex and a jersey.

Usually I can sprint light to light at a little better than 30 when traffic p'sses me off. I can maintain that pace for maybe half a mile. A few years back I wound up doing a personal "sh't and git" on a desolate four-lane hwy under favorable conditions (no traffic and light tailwind) at 20 mph for 10 miles. For some odd reason I can sprint better than I can TT.

All this was on my Tommasini road bike.

I've hit 30 before on level ground with a tailwind and gone faster downhill- maybe 35 or 37 tops.

The real question is how fast on level ground with no wind, but it's just never like that to find out.

My bike has a wide gear range. I don't need my big ring until I hit 30 or so, which means I hardly ever use it.

On the rando ride a while back, one of the highlights was rolling through Files Valley at 28 mph. Level ground with a stiff tailwind.
