Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

What did you just buy for your gravel bike?

( " People are free to do whatever they want, I guess,") Wow, How pompous are you? I find it totally preposterous that someone would even make statements like this. I'm guessing "Snowflake". Self righteous Twit.
I wouldn't get too stressed about it. I think that a personal "button" was pushed. I had an alcoholic friend flip over to the darkside and accuse everyone to be a consort of the devil if they passed a bar on the walk home. Just need to " Bird box it " (i just netflixed this movie) and understand that some people just can't keep it to themselves.
The ironic part is that I am considered by everyone as the defacto "designated driver".

I'd go ride somewhere else if someone pulled that thing out during a ride.

I bet you're a blast at parties. Honestly man I like you but this comment is tasteless and quite frankly out of left field. You should just apologize and delete it.

On the contrary. I went on vacation and you guys are still raging over it ten days later.

Seems like I struck a nerve. Given the visceral reaction, one has to wonder.

It really isn't that big of a deal. Like I said, people are free to do whatever they want. My guess is that many agree with me. Liquor has no place on a bike ride. If you disagree then just tell me to f off and go on with your life.

In other news, I bought a Rapha brevet jersey at the Rapha store in New York City while I was on vacation. Everything in the store was 40% off.

This photo should be good for at least two weeks worth of conversation and insults.

He is absolutely right that no one should be offended by his beliefs.
I like to counter his Rapha purchase with my new RX derailleur that was dropped off by Postal today. I hope that it will get me through the real bumpy stuff.

The roadlink dm let's me use a 11-40. The RX only minimizes chain slap. I might try and remove the roadlink and see the difference. My mistake was changing to many variables at once. Still tweaking the system.

That looks like too much gap between the pulley and the big cog. Maybe you don't need the road link?

Edited. I'll just say that judgement comes quite naturally to you for subjects that seem to be viewed as moral decisions.

and that's coming from someone who can count the number of drinks he has had in the last year in one hand.

Social cycling and drinking very much go hand in hand. My state has managed to monetize it thru small town bars alongside paved trails and that traveling circus that is RAGBRAI.
it isnt irresponsible if done...responsibly.

Bought and put fenders on. Of course now my front brake isn't snapping back open. =\

Sometimes, you gotta stop, get off the bike, and gawk at the scenery for a while. Have a snack. Might as well have a drink, and liquor is better at room temperature than beer.

Also, bikepacking.

Hard liquor has better alcohol/weight ratio than beer or wine, beneficial for those that count grams.

perhaps one can enjoy some liquor sitting in front of the campfire at the end of the day while touring/bikepacking (I’ve done that). That’s much different than taking a swig of rum mid ride.

Summer time stay hydrated ... beer.
Winter.. if we get it.....whatever.....
Nobody said anything about drinking and riding. Often I stop the ride and enjoy the day.

Got a redshift stem. New (used 650b wheelset), new wtb sendero's, and wolftooth b-rad rails to adjust bottle cages.

The Shockstop stem really takes "the edge off" road chatter. The only drawback for me is that I feel the need to buy another one for my commuter .

I found a great deal on some 700x38c Panaracer Gravel King slicks (brown sidewall) last night. They are supposed to be at my door by Jan. 16th. My riding is 85-90% tarmac, so these tires should be great for what I do. Unfortunately my gravel bike is in hibernation for at least another 3 months.

Got a new pair of Specialized Ground Control 29 x 1.9 tires for my Toughroad GX. They’re narrower than the 2.0 tires they’re replacing but they leave much better clearances especially in the rear and they’re a tad lighter. Also got them for a hell of a price.
