Are there any Vintage Cyclocross bikes? Were there any lugged frames built using a 1" headsets and threaded fork steerers? Please post yours.

I was going to post something about vintage cyclocross bikes. does anybody have a list of brands/models of the 80s and 90s that were specifically for cyclocross? I am looking into getting a vintage cyclcross frame.

I got a Pinarello, to replace the Screwed & Glued AlAn, in about '90,
1" fork has a cast crown, but the frame is TIG..

I have seen vintage Colnago, Pinarello, Guerciotti, Gios, and Eddy Merckx CX bikes for sale on eBay over the years, but they are not very common.

I saw a kid on campus (Wisconsin - White Water) running that Gazelle (or one very much like it) as a SS/FG over the Summer.

I was on a huge ride and totally kitted out and didn't want to roll up to a summer school hipster and do the bike talk thing. I was only there to fill up on water.

Cuda, is that Gazelle yours? What is the market price on that bare frameset?

ok I figured out how to post larger images through Photobucket links. Anyways here's my 1996 Bianchi Reparto Corse. It's lugged steel with a one inch threaded headset so I guess that makes it vintage per the requirements of this thread, though it's only 16 years old. Like all Reparto Corse, it was offered as a frame set only I believe. Double butted Dedacciai Zero UNO tubeset. I bought it used off eBay years ago. Components are a bit of a mish-mash, but mostly Ultegra or Dura-ace for hubs, BB, shifters, RD. Ritchey WCS compact crankset, Paul Mini-moto front brake. These were taken before my first race last fall, I've made some minor changes but it's pretty much like this:

That Paul Mini Moto brake is a good solution. Very few Cantilever brakes are a fit with these old forks with their narrow post centers. It should also eliminate shudder.

We sold some of these Zeus P66 Cyclocross bikes in the mid 1970s. Zeus was big in CX back then and a lot of their bikes were rebadged to race under other colors.



The frames were Durifort and the brakes were probably MAFAC cantilevers with Zeus levers??? They were 5 speeds with a singe barcon on the right side. The angles were relaxed and they had long wheel bases.

We converted them to 10 speeds and sold them as touring bikes which they were ideally suited for.

We started riding off road on road bikes in 1976. Used CX sewups whenever possible, otherwise 700x35c "Ville" urban bike clinchers that we got from France.

If I was looking for a vintage cyclocross bike, I would try to find an old Ritchey Swiss Cross. This was one of my Holy Grail bikes for many years but I never succeeded in finding one in my size. Meanwhile, Ritchey reintroduced the Swiss Cross, so you can buy a new one in just about any size. Ritchey also makes a Breakaway Cross, which has similar geometry to the Swiss Cross but the frame can be broken down for traveling, and it also has mounts for fenders and racks. I bought a used Ritchey Breakaway Cross a couple of years ago, but it's not old enough to be considered vintage. I love this bike.

Back in the early 80s I rode my Bertin C37bis off road in the woods a lot. I set it up with 46-38T chainrings and a 13-26 FW.



I used Continental Cyclocross sewups - they were marked 27" x 1 1/8"... I still have one on a wheel and it holds air.



In 1992 I built this off road/trekking/gravel grinder frame for rough stuff riding. Lugged butted Reynolds 531 tubing, 700c wheels and so on. It was set up to use with upright or drop bars and clinchers or cyclocross sewups.

I had CX sewups on it at one time. Also 700x47c knobbys but I've been running Specialized Nimbus 700x41c tires on this for years.
