Mileage record for me.....just had to share/brag!!
This year has been a great year for me cycling that is. Before this year I have never had the time to put up enough rides to exceed 3,000 miles in a year. BUT with covid setting in early I knew I would be able to make a run at 3K. Being other activities were a no go I could put in more time on the bike. And actually riding then became my mental health activity this year being lockdown was hard on me. Then at the end of summer riding I broke 3K...first time ever. I was pretty happy! So I thought go for broke and get 4,000 miles. I did my normal ride today and downloaded my 1030 and low and behold I just broke 4,000 miles today! I am really excited. The few good things about 2020 is I managed good strides not only is miles, and over all fitness but good gains in the never ending weight loss battle.
I am sure many people do 4,6,10 thousand miles every year but for me hitting 3 then 4,000 miles is a very big deal. I am hoping to get to 4250 now before the end of the year.
I am amazed that guys/gals who can do 5-8-12 thousand miles a year...I can't wait to retire and get those kind of hours in the saddle. In reality this year I celebrated every outdoor therapeutic mile I could ride!
Just wanted to brag a bit!

that's awesome and congrats. Been a while since I have had the time for big miles like that. My top year was 7800 in 2013 and ranged between 3 and 5K from 2014 to 2018, but I had several big medical set backs and a seriously crappy job dynamics that I have since changed...so I am rebuilding my legs and endurance to build up some big miles for 2021.

Great job!
I think my best is a bit over 4,000 as well. Barely made over 1,000 this year. And last year I struggled to get to 2,000. I’m hoping to turn things around in 2021.
Next year I bet you can get 5K.

The only way I can get 5K for sure is if another pandemic happens, I hope not to get 5K next year!

4,000 miles is certainly respectable but is there a reason why you are waiting for retirement?
Doing 5-7 grand per year is very doable even without retiring. I have buddies that say they don't have time to ride big mileage years. But IMO, it's all about priorities. I don't watch TV, pro sports and don't hit up the local breweries so I spend more time riding than lounging around. Not saying you do, but my priority is exercise over watching tv.
I remember a guy saying working a 40 hour job makes it impossible for one to do over 2,000 miles per year. I bet to differ. I did 7,000 working 10 hour shifts 6 months out of the year and every Saturday for the other 6 months.
Unless a person has young children to care for, it is very easy to do the bigger miles.

I am not a TV person either, except for hockey. Biking this year was easier becase I got furlowed for while and that gave me lots of time to ride. I could probably push to 3500 but I don't want to make biking a "gotta get the miles in" type activity, I do ride for fitness but more so for fun.
I hear you though, priorites are all in what a person makes them.

Congrats. I wish I had time to ride 3,000 miles in a year. One year I got close to my goal of 2,000 miles but my wife didn't like it much because I was spending a bit too much time on my bike.

That’s amazing! I did almost 2,000 miles this year, and that was after a 29 year break of cycling! I am 47 now, so it’s a pretty good start.

Congrats sdmc530
That is about how many miles I had this year
One way to get more miles in per year is, as TrojanHorse once told me...
All you have to do is ride faster...simple math

Congrats on the 4Kmi. Nice, "round" number.
Old injuries have been keeping me a bit constrained on mileage and routes, for the past year or two, but I'm hoping to change that with a new (refurb) bike that's got much lower gearing, more-upright riding position, shorter cranks, comfier fit. I'll start with a ~40mi/wk goal, hoping to get back to 100mi/wk within a year or two (depending on how leg strength comes along).

You kicked my tail, nice job!
My biggest year was right at 1600, and I vow to do better this year. It's great to hear your accomplishments as it helps motivate mine.

I wish Strava existed from 1979, when I was riding between 500-800miles a week 50 weeks a year, and when I got my first SRM in 1987 and the KOM's I could have had. Now I'm back on it I plan to get 15,000 miles this year or die trying
