I want lightweight. Should I upgrade or replace?

Hello folks. I've been riding a Marin bobcat trail for a decade, but now I want something lighter. It's used on pavement and trails.
Should I bring it to the shop and swap out all the components for lighter gear while keeping the old frame... or should I just buy a new bike?

Which would make the most sense, in terms of money spent $$ ?

Thanks

Much more bang for the buck with a new one. Especially if you are paying for the installation of all the upgrade/new pieces. 10 years is a long time in bike tech.

You want light? Go carbon fiber, hardtail, Cannondale lefty, 1x chainring, tubeless tires.

That'll do it. You'll be shocked at how great it'll ride. Enjoy.

Buy something new, keep the old bike as a back up.

I think Jamis has some lighter weight cross country bikes.

This is what I was telling the OP. It'll be light and nimble.
