Uhm, Did Anyone Ride To Wilson Today?

I've been to wilson quite a few times, but I think today I was the clearest I've ever seen it. The view was honestly incredible. Seeing boats out on the ocean is somewhat common, but seeing the surface texture of the water (with enough detail to see the coastline of the Palos Verdes Peninsula) was pretty amazing.

I hope other people in the area were able to make it up there today.

The few times I've ridden there, I couldn't even see the ocean. I'd love to have a clear view for once.

The view from Malibu was extraordinary.

EDIT: I had a lot of opportunity to see it. Cassave and Thomson got sick of riding with the gimp so they dropped me and left me to the views.

I'm in Detroit, but my GF rode her road bike up Chaney Trail to Wilson today. She was on the small Bianchi if you saw her.

Bitignduck: We actualy did see her up at wilson. We were hanging out enjoying the view and she rolled by us.

Merckx: We saw them descending down as we were on our way up. Were you there?

Ovo: My car overheated and I was forced to abandon it. Have you considered hooking a trailer hitch to the back of you bike and towing cars as a side job? We could have used your help.

It's paved on the lower part of Chaney until you get to the Mt. Lowe Railway fire road, then you come out at Mt. Wilson Rd about 2 miles below the park entrance. It's not bad on a road bike- we do fire roads on them fairly often.

Nope. Her cross bike is in Canuckistan. It's a plain old road bike with 700x23 road tires. Works fine.

Hi,

I was up on Newport Coast and Spyglass today and the view north to Long Beach was spectacular too.

Oops, I was thinking of Chantry.

Damn - I was supposed to ride up today, but chickened out at a unreasonably early start time. Every time I've done the climb, I've seen nothing but clouds at the top. Luckily, I'm taking all week off.

No- you probably had it right. It is fire road for a lot of it, but it's quite rideable.

Nah, I've ridden both, so I know that the toll road is more rideable on a road bike than Chaney. When I was thinking Chaney, I was wondering, "How the hell is that possible?" Chantry makes more sense, haha.

The toll road isn't rideable on a bike at all right now-- there's still a huge landslide just above Eaton Canyon, so you have to take a horse trail if you hike it. The fire road is closed.

I don't think there's even any obvious way up wilson from Chantry, at least not on a fire road.
