First Big Ride on Tandem
So after a few trial runs around the neighbourhood we finally got up the nerve to take the tandem on a bigger ride. We did a 70k ride with a group of mainly single bikes with one other tandem who haappen to be very experienced riders. Learned a lot and have lots to learn! As the captain I found out I didn't need to inform my stoker on every little thing I was doing. We seemed to fall into a groove pretty quickly, still have to get in sync with but all in all it was a great experience. My partner decided to ride platform petals instead of her normal SPD's, next ride she will be clipped in as she felt she was not in control without being clipped in. I was actually pretty surprised as she is a very free spirit yet in control woman but after the ride she said, wow that was awesome just sit and pedal and talk. Had to make a few adjustments and will have to work on riding when stading although we did manage to stand up, one at a time not together, bike got a little squirlly but our experienced team gave us a few pointers and it did get a lot better. Overall it was a great time and can't wait till we can do it again but winter is coming fast! Ride impressions, hills suck! Reality is we need to learn to ride more together hard to explain? Flat ground we rock...lol The bike worked great and felt very stable, some of the corners at speed was a little concerning but we made it. Was also a little surprised at how comfy it was but did need to raise saddle a little and make a few other slight adjustments. What a rush!

Great stuff, thanks for sharing the report.
Hills are tough on a tandem. Getting the stoker clipped in is going to help. If you're brave, then try riding out of phase - it made the hills feel a lot better for us, but you may want to save that until you've mastered other things first.
