I’ve owned Suomi Mount & Grounds, Schwalbe MW’s and Suomi W240’s. Bought the SMW's for my 29er but the tread blocks seemed a bit more shallow and never felt as secure on snow as the M&G’s. I replaced the SMW’s with Suomi W240’s and like them better for snow & icy ruts. The SMW might roll a little nicer on dry pavement but I prefer the Suomis. Quality wise they’re all fine tires.

Another vote for just ride the studs - if frequent tire changing or multiple bikes is not an option. Plus, that first dry pavement ride without studs is soooo satisfying!
I tend to do multiple bikes and frequent tire changes. My MTB (winter bike) keeps studs throughout the winter, but my gravel bike goes back and forth a bit in fall and spring. This is mainly because I hate changing MTB tires but don't mind it so much on road and gravel bikes.

Also:
these ($30, but not much info), and these
($120 for pair, but look new)
Here in Ottawa, I've purchased one studded tire at retail, and 5 tires from kijiji. Winter tires are to be like treadmills—people buy them with good intentions but poor resolve.

I would put non-studded tires on the rear wheels only and ride studded on the front until the ice gets bad, then, I would switch to studded on both wheels. Keeping studs on the front should help you stay upright in case you get caught with in an area with more ice than you thought would be there. Your also less likely to wear out the studs on the front tire than on the back, so you can save your winter tires for when you really need them.
