Winter Cycling Goggles??

Hi fellows,

What are you recommending for winter cycling goggles that are OTG?

Thank you,

I use Scott ski goggles, love 'em. Coldest I've ridden with them was only -17º F though and only for a few miles but they worked great and fit over my glasses no problem.

Hi fellows, I bought the following goggles and accessories for "Canadian winter weather":

https://fortnine.ca/en/scott-split-o...fog-fan-system

https://fortnine.ca/en/scott-no-fog-fan-kit

https://fortnine.ca/en/scott-split-o...oss-nose-guard

If someone reading this post buys these, ensure that you have the three components:

1. Googles
2. Fan
3. Nose protector

Some retailers have broken up these components separately hence a wide range of prices.

Good luck,

Canuckophile

That oughta do it! Do you anticipate the need to ever use a face mask? Will these goggles fit over one?

I use Giro Index goggles. Excellent fit, don't fog even here in Minnesota's often frigid conditions.

I'm considering something smaller than full blown ski/snowboard goggles, something more like this:

I just bought a pair of Carreras, that look like they'll work out. My eyes have been really watering this year, even just walking, so I had to try something. 🙄

I need something to fit over my glasses and reduce sun glare - these look pretty budget friendly:

I'm still in the hunt for good goggles. Tomorrow in MN it's going to be about 8 deg F for the ride...cold enough to warrant some goggles, but not cold enough to rate the snowboarding helmet.

However, the snowboard/ski goggles don't work with a cycling helmet. They're too big.

I have some WileyX goggles that are a smaller profile, but they fog like crazy, even just walking around.

I use Visorgogs. $8. Once you get past their odd style you'll have a good set of goggles that don't fog up. As long as the warm air from your balaclava doesn't channel up to the goggle that is. Been using them for 10 years now. I'm on my third pair because they do fade from UV damage over time. I get about three years out of them before I replace them. But now that I've solved the fogging problem I can use them in sub zero temperatures.

May I ask how you solved the fogging issue?

I use an old Iditarod trick I saw back in 09 of Jay Petervary,a veteran rider of the 1000 mi trip to Nome. In addition to wearing a balaclava, I cover my nose and cheeks with a fleece headband. This gives my breath an opening to escape without going up my goggles when covered with the balaclava. This is my 11th winter of daily commuting. I always had fogging problems below 10'f. I used it at 0'f and it worked great.

Scoatw: I am writing from Canada and I have fogging/icing issues with my ski googles/Outdoor Research full face balaclave when it is -20C or below. I tried to find images of the solution that you described and the closest I could find was from Cam Dube's Fatbike Blog. However, the image he posted does not include goggles.

Would it be possible to post an image of how you set up your goggles/headband/balaclava? If not, can you provide more detail about your setup? Do you cover your mouth with the balaclava? Do your goggles cover the headband or do they rest on top of your headband?

Any advice that you can provide would be much appreciated.

Sorry to respond so late. I just now saw it on my notifications. Just as I described. First put balaclava on covering your mouth. Second, fit headband around your head so it covers your nose and cheeks. [Then put on your helmet.] The balaclava covers your mouth, thus warming your face. The break between the balaclava and the headband provides an escape route for your warm exhales instead of going up into your goggles. Got it?
