Picked up a 14-28 11 speed ultegra cassette off of ebay and used it to create a Franken-Cassette for my 1x

So the new cog set is 14-15-16-17-18-21-23-25-27-30-34

I've only taken it out for one ride, but so far it feels pretty good. I was afraid the jump from 18-21 would be too much, but I don't even notice it.

I have a feeling 14t is going to be one tooth too big when my legs are feeling good, but then again this is my commute/gravel bike, so turning a 40-14 is a reasonable limit no matter what I'm doing.

I let my front disc brake pad wear down too much. Had to order a new one (finned flat mount metallic Shimano pad), decided just in case I trashed the rotor to throw in a 140mm Ultegra replacement. Right now that bike runs 160mm, but I plan to downsize the rarely used rear rotor while moving the original to the front.

Replaced my PowerTap wheel with a Stages crankarm. I am smart enough to not ask for my light wheels back that I gave to the GF so I found a set of Enve 25 classic carbon tubs on the cheaper side and went for it. drops my SuperSix in the 15lb-ish range with nothing on it. Ordered some 25mm gatorskins to replace the 22's that are on it eventually. Time to hit some KOMs

Oh, that happened to me today! aliexpress asked me for feedback on a recent purchase. I clicked on their link, and I had to log into their Italian page. It's a bit tricky to do that. I reported the problem in my feedback.

Side note: is this thread "jumpy" for anyone else? The "reply" box wasn't at the bottom for me as it normally is, I had to click on the Reply in a bottom toolbar. Weird.

Anyway; all my cycling related purchases hit in relatively short time so here's the latest iteration of the SuperSix Evo Di2 that I got on the 4th. LBS installed all of the parts the other day:

• Replaced Cannondale SI cranks + FSA 52/36 rings with Ultegra FC-R8000 50/34 crankset (to complete the Ultegra Di2 transmission, also needed a BB30A bottom bracket adapter)
• Bontrager Montrose Pro carbon fiber saddle (shaved 100g off old saddle weight)
• Bontrager Aeolus Pro 3 TLR disc carbon fiber wheels (replaced Mavic Aksium aluminums)
• Continental Grand Prix 5000 TL tubeless tires
• Dura-Ace rotors (because they were on sale, and the Evo came with the cheaper rotors that normally accompany a 105 groupset)
• Shimano 901 chain (DA level) to replace the 601 chain (again a 105 groupset component, anoter corner Cannondale cut to keep costs down)

I've decided that's the limit for this bike in terms of improvements. Had the shop put it on the scale as you see it in the picture above (with pedals, cages, spare pump). 18.01 lbs. To quote Ricky Bobby, "I just wanna go fast"

I have the same bike and I love your upgrade choices! Especially the wheels those are really sharp looking. Do you know if you saved any weight with those wheels or with the crankset? Those are the two things I’m always waffling back and forth about whether I want to swap or not.

Full admission: I didn't weigh any of the parts, so I can't prove anything. But you see what I have there. It weighed 18.01lbs, (with 2 normal plastic cages and that pump). So if you can get yours down to an LBS and have them weigh it, that will give you a definitive answer.

• Shimano claims 343g for the pedals
• Bontrager claims 38g (multiply by 2) for the bottle cages
• Crankbrothers claims 150g for the pump

In case you want to subtract any of those weights for proper comparison. If you really want to be accurate you'd need to subtract the two light brackets at the front and back, but Trek/Bonty site doesn't list their weights.

Unscientifically speaking
I held both the new wheels (with Conti 5K TL tires and sealant already in it) along with the Mavic Aksium with Conti 5K clinchers they took off my bike. I could clearly tell the Pro 3s were lighter. If you trust Bonty and Mavic's websites, I went from 1905g to 1600g, but you'd have to add inner tube weight to the 1905, and you'd have to add the rim strip+sealant weight to the 1600g figure.

The crankset...I don't know. Cannondale's SI cranks are known for being light-though from what I've read it's really at the SiSL and SiSL2 level, whereas the SI crank is the "mass market" version so is likely heavier. I wouldn't be surprised if I gained a little weight with the Shimano crankset. But most people think Shimano rings are better than FSA rings in terms of shifting, and I wanted a compact 50/34 rather than the 52/36 that came with it, so I didn't factor in weight at all when I made the choice.

I definitely saved 75g on the Montrose Pro seat vs. the Selle (I just weighed it since it was sitting on my spare-parts table) .

I also replaced the C2 UD seatpost with a Cannondale Carbon SAVE seatpost, but again I didn't weigh them side by side so I can't say if I saved any weight.

According to Shimano's site, I also save 36g by going to the Dura-Ace rotors.

Thanks for the analysis! I've got 1500 miles on the bike so far and am not at all impressed with the shiftability of the chainrings on the SI crankset. I have to soft pedal when going from the small to large ring otherwise it doesn't budge. My CAAD10 has ultegra cranks and shifts like a freakin dream even when pedaling hard and its not even Di2. One of the only reasons I've held out this long is that I don't like the idea of using a BB adapter (my CAAD10 has one to get the ultegras to fit) but I think eventually I'll make the switch despite that.

Oh good point, that reminds me that I am using a Wheels Manufacturing BB30A (not the standard BB30, you need the Asymmetric version) to Shimano bottom bracket. This one to be exact: https://wheelsmfg.com/bottom-bracket...ano-black.html

I literally drove an hour in traffic to the one place in So Cal that had it. I have had zero issues with it, no noise, no creaking, feels good to pedal.

Like you, I too was frustrated with the FSA shift feel, especially since my Trek FX S6 with the 105 group had no problems shifting on the front rings. I don't think I had quite as severe an issue, it might be a derailleur adjustment is needed for you? I just felt that the FSA wasn't as "snappy" in shifting as the Trek was in the front rings going from small to large. Sometimes it took longer for the chain to catch the teeth properly. The Ultegra 50/34 (and subsequent front derailleur adjustment) has fixed all of that and shifts reliably and quickly.

Certainly could be a derailleur issue. I spent hours trying to make adjustments myself to improve the shifting and ended up throwing in the towel on that endeavor and shelling out the money to a bike shop with a great reputation and the shifting has since improved but still not perfect.
