Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Made a bit of an old fool of myself today. On a long flat on my return from a long, hot ride, I noticed two riders on my wheel. Having no interest in anything other than finishing my workout at my chosen level of effort, I held pace. They just camped out there, so I went reluctantly into pace line mode, held my line, and began to point out bad pavement. After about a mile and a half, they made their move, and one guy crept up and started half wheeling without a word of greeting or acknowledgement. I said, “And a pleasant good morning to you too and you’re welcome,” to which he replied with some mumbling I didn’t make out. At that point, I am ashamed to say, I told him to **** off, and sped up. They dropped back on the clear evidence that I was an irritable and potentially dangerous character and, inevitably, passed me on the next hill.

and ornery, a contraction of “ordinary,” which, like “mean,” connotes averageness. Downright unremarkable, if you ask me.

Praying for biblical rains here this evening.

Timing:
My regular doc is on vacation and is being replaced by the cute one. I got to sit across the desk from her again today and I continue to be enchanted. Blood work tomorrow and a stress test next week means I will get to do it yet again.

I keep one of these in my pocket.

Happy 4th y'all.

I'll be celebrating in the fashion of the day - quick dip in the pool, then a cigar.
