Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll never understand why some companies feel like they need to put their name on every possible part of the bike. You would think the large "Kestrel" on the down tube would be sufficient. Just looks dumb.

I like that Cannondale. Looks like it came to do business.

Great photo too. Background is nice but doesn't distract.

Why is the bottle cage zip tied? Or is it?

Went with rim brakes and QR wheels on this 2019 retro frame. Had the current Tarmac Pro for a year and found it less than exciting, both in looks and ride. This is still too new to me judge but so far so good. Reusing old parts until Di2 funds are available, hence the oddball DA/Campy mix.

I'm going to pass judgement until you post a pic in the sun. The shady picture is not doing the paint justice.

I don't understand the single sideloader though

If you want a smoother ride, ditch the Thomson post for a carbon one.

I really don’t know what to make of your bike. I absolutely love the Allied frame, I really like that you’re doing what it takes so that you can ride it all the live long day. I have no issues with Campy, DA blend. The overall look from a pure appearance end doesn’t sing to me from a purely “hot” standpoint but it’s an incredible bike nevertheless. I guess it’s hot since I keep looking at the pic... enjoy and ride safe!

Totally agree, it's not hot in the typical exaggerated sense at all (super deep rims, huge saddle/bar drop, all-black, etc)! I was hoping it would look attractive and classic with a modern slant. Like the dream date for a fit middle age person.

I may be an outlier but the 'typically exaggerated' look does nothing for me. I understand that there are applications best served by bikes that have that look but that's where my appreciation ends. I'm far more likely to enjoy the looks of a bike like yours than some nearly solid mass of carbon fiber.

That said, a few things that would really help your bike in my opinion:

1. Match your stem angle to your top tube. They are just ever so slightly different and it bugs me a bit.
2. Get rid of that spacer on top of the stem. I may have designed something that can help with that
3. Use a more traditional-looking bottle cage. That side loader just looks wrong. But if you like the functionality, please ignore me. I just don't get using a side loader cage when your main triangle is that massive.
4. Use a longer focal length and/or stand further back and crop to reduce the perspective in your photo. I like getting the far side of handlebar to disappear in my photos (requires a 200mm+ focal length lens) as I think it really tidies up an otherwise busy looking area of a bike.

Thanks, good advice!

1: Easy
2: Easy
3: Functionally I hate that bottle cage. I have to throw a quick glance down to check correct insertion which is not ideal in certain settings. What's a quality trad cage?
4: Right

I like the Elite Ciussi cages but I'm struggling with how to fit on into the color scheme of your bike. Where did you find that headset spacer? If custom painted, perhaps you could do the same with a bottle cage. I don't think matching the frame color is ideal and all black seems too plain. A black/rose gold(?) combo could look nice, though.

https://www.elite-it.com/en/products...al-inox/ciussi

The 'Elite' label peels off easily. You could then maybe refinish the little inserts to match your accent color. Not sure how easy that would be given the material (slippery plastic).

I found these, too:

Took awhile but new build finally ready. 16.5lbs as shown. Not the lightest but good enough for an alloy bike i guess.
