Congrats to your wife for the new purchase. May she enjoy many happy miles on it.👍
Went to the Trek superstore last night to grab some tires, and I stumbled upon these Townie ebikes.

My wife took a test ride and liked it. It's a 250W hub motor, 300AH rear rack mount battery. Fairly lightweight too.
I know there are more powerful cruiser options out there on the internet for this price, but really, an Electra supported by Trek at a LBS for $1500?
UPDATE:
My wife is a proud new owner of one! It is a really nice, but simple bike. Very light. weighs about the same as her Electra Super Deluxe 3i. And it climbed a steep hill faster than my Turbo Vado!

Cheaper Bafang geared hub motor cruisers with a larger frame mounted 400wh battery are the Tuesday August Live ($1400), and BikesDirect Mango SuperBird ($1,000), but it’s nice to see a budget ebike you can buy from a Trek dealer, I like the balloon tires, and Trek do a trade-up program for future ebike purchases.

Back from our trip. The Townie did very well. My wife climbed to the top of Skinner Butte in Eugene and Mt. Tabor in Portland. Both climbs were effortless for her. I got a workout on my Surly...LOL
As far as range goes, it's been a non-issue. 20-30 mile rides leave ample battery life.

I bought my wife one
I picked one up at a local bike store for 1399.00 but I also bought a Trek Stache mtn bike so they cut me a little slack. First ride for her was this evening and it went well. She hadn't been on a bike in almost 2 years due to illness and an injury. We are very pleased to be out together again.

Curious to see if Trek can or will actually support that bike long term?

I've never had a bad experience with Trek bikes. I've got a Verve, tandem. Stache and now the Townie. No issues ever with them.

2 year update
2 year update. The townie is still holding up quite well. It gets ridden on a lot of rough paths (baby heads and gravel equestrian paths) At least 2000 miles in total.
Battery is still handling the same range (25+ miles). Wheels are still true (never adjusted). Bike is loaded with 2 full paniers and a dog in a milk crate on the front, mounted on an Origin8 porteur rack. (about 35 lbs total gear and dog)
One time the headset came a little bit loose. Once tightened, it hasn't come loose since.
I upgraded the cable pull brakes to hydraulic. I had a set of take-offs laying around and the LBS installed them for under $50
I changed the tires to Schwalbe Big Apples. Same size tire, never gets flats and grips the loose debris ridden paths much better. Ride is much better too.
The Trek store swapped out a dead battery charger about 6 months into the bike.
I swapped out he Tourney derailleur for a Deore. The tourney didn't have enough tension to keep the chain from dropping,
Still can't complain. My wife rides her bike with dog in basket 3-5 days a week. Her only complaint is the tight clearance for the water bottle cage.

RW, thanks for the update. That bike looked good from the beginning. You might look at SKS water bottle holder on Amazon. I've been using the 11313 part to attach a controller to my bike and one of the other types for my water bottle.

BTW, liked the second type so well (on my off road bike it has never come loose no matter how bumpy the terrain) that I purchased four for my wife and me.
