Spent a couple of days in Ostbelgien, that part of Belgium where they speak German. Lovely area, and being in the Ardennes during the asparagus season can only lead to one thing: asparagus nach Ardenner Art. Now, does that look C&V or doesn't it?

A couple of days in Stockholm presented me with an opportunity to try a Swedish classic: Toast Skagen. A shrimp salad (mayo, shrimps, horseradish and dill) on toast. Very, very nice.

As I was going through some old phone pics, I found these. Pictures of vintage ship's menus of days long gone. Found them on the walls of the hotel Edward 1er in Monpazier, France, where mrs non-fixie and I stayed on one of our cycling trips. Courtesy of Arjan en Marije Capelle, the proprietors (thanks, guys!).

January 6, 1934. Dinner aboard the "Heiyo Maru". Apparently she was eastward bound:

From slightly closer to home, in many respects, a 1966 lunch menu from the SS "Maasdam", which probably did quite a few trans-Atlantic crossings between 1952 and 1968 for the Holland-America Line. I'd have wanted the "Relevé" :

In 1971 things were going downhill, judging by the HAL menu aboard the "Rotterdam". It all seems a bit lower middle class to me. Cheeseburger and fries? Danish Blue? What happened to the Roquefort?
The 1959 "Rotterdam" is a beautiful ship though, and still afloat. Currently berthed in - where else - Rotterdam:

Thanks, @clubman, for posting those. You can't go wrong with stuffed peppers. One of my neighbors regularly goes hunting in Germany and he supplied me with half a wild boar last week, which is currently in my freezer. Some of that is definitely going to end up in a very similar recipe.
