Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Don't be so naive. For example:

There are TWO smartphone factories in China. One makes iPhones and one makes Android phones. Get it??

Curt Gowdy in mid October should be wide open I'd think. Bring warm clothes and MTBs.

Oxford. “Backdoor” cold front just hit after dinner, with quite a bit of wind out of the East.

I never even heard of that park. Isn't he still alive? And are we talking about the same Curt Gowdy, the sports announcer?

Drove the little lady to night school and hit the first bar I saw.

They serve 12.9% stout by the pint. I better pace myself.

Grrr. My friend is planning on attempting his first century this Sat and said that I'd be welcome to join, but I already have a 100-miler scheduled with the club on Sunday. I'm tempted, and I'm sure that the pace on Sat would be pretty easy, but it would still be 100 miles and 7+ hours in the saddle, which would probably make Sun pretty hurty.

You know, just to see if the door is open, I'm going to mention the n00b cent attempt (in passing) to my wife and see what her reaction is.

BTW, I have been in friendly contact with our dearly departed Seeds, and he reassures me he did not go away angry, he just went away. BF was apparently a bit too much of a distraction from other more important issues in his life. I told him I would let the gang know he is ok.

We try and camp at Curt Gowdy every year. It's so close, an easy tow, and fun for the kids to explore and ride. We went to Glendo State Park this year and it was awesome. All the kids would wake up and ride over to the pump track two minutes away. Very biking friendly.

I heard a tornado came close to Glendo during the 4th weekend, two weeks after we were there, and destroyed everything. Hail tore holes into RVs, blasted out windshields.

It happens to everyone in this thread that has been around for a while. It gets a bit much and/or irritating and you leave.

For me, coming back is motivating, which makes leaving in a huff counterproductive. I want to hit next season running, which means I can't pork up this winter. Listening to people riding and racing, and folks like LAJ and HP that are racing at a high level, is motivating to me. I can find a million excuses over the winter. I want to lose weight instead of gaining weight. LAJ is preparing beet milkshakes.

All done. Enjoying a lunch including green, leafy vegetables. It’s been raining off and on since 3 am. Going to skip the abandoned turnpike ride, get a room in Bedford, PA (points for knowing the cycling connection) and drive home early tomorrow morning.
